I tried to watch the pilot but found too much of the standard network TV "hoke" in it. When are they going to stop doing that? I think viewers are burned out on political drama because they are sick of politics. So even this show didn't get eyes.

Put it in my queue from your reco and just got around to it, pretty good so far, always liked Mark Strong and most of the casting seems pretty good.

stardust - i'm not really big into fantasy themed movies but this one had Robert DeNiro, Michele Phieffer, CLaire Danes & Ricky Gervais which i figured could be a "dangerous" combination - first time i attempted to watch it, i didn't make it 10 minutes into the movie before losing interest. For whatever reason, i watched it again and at about the 20-25 minute mark realized what a hellaciously good job everyone including the script writers did on this movie. Think if it like The Hobbit for adults

I agree. When I saw the movie poster at the theater I was not interested but then my wife wanted to rent it. My wife ended up not caring for it but thought it was very good.

I want to say I really like this thread. Max is a great idea but all he recommends are the same movies on my Netflix homepage.

I enjoyed Stardust when I first saw it and on repeat viewings. It has hilarious performances by DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer and is just an all around good movie. Others have mentioned it, but Sushi Girl was a wonderful film with a lovely performance by the late Brittany Murphy and a great performance by the Japanese actor who plays the sushi shop owner. The movie is tinged with sadness, however, because it revealed how much potential Murphy had as an actress and that we would never get to see that.

Gilmore Girls is up--it seems to be all in 1080p (well, the pilot is, so I'm making assumptions about the rest of the 7 seasons ).

Yes.

Why, when there is a 16:9 version available, did they release the DVD box sets as 4:3, I wonder?

EDIT : Sorry, I see Brian added this earlier ..

One more ..

"3 Days to Kill" .. a Kevin Costner vehicle likely an attempt to mimic Liam Neeson's success the last couple years, but worth a watch ..

The first two seasons were great. Season 3 started to get too teenage angst for me, however I did stick with it to the end. I was disappointed when it wasn't renewed.
