Just finished watching 2nd season of Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. Talk about a cliff hanger finale... Too bad the series got canned. I wonder how would have continued the story with such an ending

I know!!! Talk about a pisser .

I loved that series. It uniquely addresses the life of the teenaged John Connor. What would it have been like to live through your teens as a fugitive hunted by relentless cyborgs from the future? I mean, it's hard enough getting through puberty without adding that to it .

What was really galling was that they gave the insipid and ridiculous Doll House another part of a season instead of continuing TSCC.

The InstantWatcher site lists all of them, not sure how you could find out about streaming-only availability though.

The only streams I've seen which have no DVD are current-season TV series episodes. I don't think that I've ever run across a movie like that on Netflix.

I run across a lot of them. Everything on this small list is either:

Format: Streaming
Format: Streaming (HD available)

The Red Balloon (1956)
The Landlord (1970)
Ladybug Ladybug (1963)
Harry in Your Pocket (1973)
Sans S oleil (1982)
Minnie and Moskowitz (1971)
The Son (2002)
The Pumpkin Eater (1964)
The Go-Between (1970)
Odd Man Out (1947)

Now the reason why there is no DVD by mail from Neflix varies. Maybe Netflix lost all their copies. A DVD might exist, but it's not Region 1. Some are only available in special limited box sets and Netflix doesn't have them. Some of them are 'DVDR on Demand' (DoD). And some still have no DVD release at all, but there they are streaming. I guess there is no way to filter all movies to build a current and complete list of streaming only titles.

There are DVDs for some of those titles, they're just doubled-feature versions. When the only DVD they have is like that, they're going to split them up as streams. Sans Soleil is on a DVD with one of Chris Marker's earlier films, La Jetée and The Red Baloon is on a DVD with one of Albert Lamorisse's other films, White Mane--there are also separate streams for La Jetée and White Mane.

This is not a gem, but a find for my own nostalgia. Of the 4 shows I remember watching between the ages of 3 and 5, this is one of them. After watching the first 3 episodes I can see why it stuck in my childhood mind: lots of explosions, wildly improbable plotlines, and the most pathetic German soldiers this side of Hogan's Heroes. Fun for me, but not to be taken seriously by any means.

+1 for The Chaser, a great Korean movie with plenty of murky morality and divided loyalties.

Also enjoyed Panic, which took a while to sink in; I found myself thinking about it a lot this morning after watching it last night. There are some deeply affecting performances by Donald Sutherland, John Ritter, William H. Macy, and even Neve Campbell (who gets to deliver most of the great one-liners).

I'd be all over that. I only use BDs these days for big sound, big picture films, mostly sci-fi and noisy action-adventure. I'm on a one disc at a time plan and I've been holding my current disc for 9 months.

Ditto MichaelScott. There's not many movies I feel I must see on BD (and those are limited to action or special effects/sci-fi films).

Nice to see Netflix is focusing on the future, but I'm not ready to go completely discless yet, but I have bumped down the number of discs I get.

I was going to keep my 1 blu ray at a time(down from 3 at a time I had for years). However, many of my rentals lately have been stripped of all bonus material, and I love a good commentary track.

So I too will go to a streaming only service. With an HTPC in the HT, PS3, and a netflix LG blu ray, all in different rooms, it will be an unbeatable deal!

Ok, now that the PS3 is claiming 1080p and DD5.1 sound for Netflix streaming. Where is the content? I have only found one so far - "When We Left Earth".

You mean DD5.1? As far as I know, no one's figured out how to detect 1080p titles or knows which ones are 1080p for sure.

I marched through my instant queue and found Cashback, Follow the Prophet, Two Lovers, Friday Night Lights, Seasons 1 and 3 (but not season 2) and The Stoning of Soraya M. with 5.1 sound. Since none of those were particularly "big sound/big picture" movies that would be much enhanced by 5.1 sound, I searched around and found that The Matrix Revolutions also has it. Not very impressive--the battle scenes in that should rock the house and they don't.

They're supposed to be streaming DD+, but people are getting DD5.1 (some say they aren't getting that). You can tell it to only stream PCM but then there'd be no way to know that you were getting DD+.

I'll take any form of multi-channel. DD5.1 or DD+. I just double-checked and noticed I was set to Bitstream on my PS3 instead of PCM. I go back and forth since I share systems. Anyway, after reconfiguring to PCM, the Netflix client came up and wanted me to log in again to authorize. I sure hope they don't always ask for that. That would be a real pain on the PS3 without a keyboard. But now I find that Netflix is down. They must be getting hammered right now. It's probably everyone testing out streaming.

I don't expect much on the video side. I expect it to be highly compressed, even if they claim 1080p. But I would really like 5.1 sound. Sorry, even for dialog tracks, I would much prefer the dialog be coming from the center channel cleanly, rather than the bleeding you get with Pro Logic on stereo tracks. And it's especially annoying when you know there is a good multi channel soundtrack originally recorded and all you get is stereo with Netflix.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up on the other titles. I will check them when Netflix comes back up again.

Possible, but it needn't be. As long as they leave 720p alone, they can make any bandwidth requirement for 1080p that they want.

Don't be sorry--it doesn't enhance things one iota for me, but I expect others to feel differently . As long as the dialog is vaguely centered I coulld care less for dialog-oriented content.

Same plan, but you got me beat on the disc, I've only had mine for about 4 mos.

BTW, did you tell me about The Stoning of Soraya M? Anyway, excellent film.

Couldn't have been me, since I haven't watched it yet. I put it on the queue while browsing HD streams because it seemed interesting and Netflix's algorithm estimated that I'd give it 4.5 stars. Good to hear that you recommend it.

It's quite good, and with a very strong performance from Shohreh Aghdashloo.

How can you tell that they're 1080? It now upconverts everything streamed to the PS3 to 1080p, including SD stuff.

I guess i can't. But it looks as good or better than broadcast, which is 1080i. So whether it's p or not, I'm happy.

Really? Better than broadcast? You must have a low bitrate provider then, AT&T U-verse possibly?
