I thought this was pretty good, it has a story format similar to that of The Killing(Danish) with some added facets to it.

That's exactly what it reminded me of.

The Siege of Jadotville.
Did a thread search and this movie did not come up. https://www.netflix.com/search?q=The...f%20Jadotville
Had it in my queue for a while and it was better than I thought it would be. Based off a true story of Ireland U.N. peacekeepers faced with insurmountable odds in 1961, worth a look.

I binged through season 1 of The Magicians this weekend. Sort of Harry Potter-esque where its "Hogwarts" equivalent is a university whose students mostly learn about the existence of real magic when they're chosen to take an aptitude test for entrance. No wands but lots of sex and profanity and a couple of questionable rape survivor themes. I'd never heard of it before I saw it listed on Netflix but apparently the first season originally aired on SyFy a year ago; season 2 begins to air on the February 1st.

It was compelling enough to pull me through the 13 episodes over a couple of days and I will be watching season 2. (Glad I don't have to wait a year to see what happens after the cliffhanger ending ).

I had forgotten about The Magicians on SyFy. I remember generally that I rather liked it. For some reason, though, it appears that I cancelled my season pass. Fortunately, SyFy is going to rerun the last three episodes of Season 1 on Wednesday morning, so I can watch the Season 1 finale and then decide whether I want to start Season 2 on Wednesday evening.

I've made it though half of the episodes of the Spanish crime series "Mar De Plastico". If you're a fan of shows like "Wallander", "The Killing", "The Bridge", etc, you may like this show. The PQ is fantastic too!

I got the first book, read it, got the other two then lent the set out before I got to the other two. Somehow I rushed through the first one, but later it seemed a bit angsty, and I think I grew to hate the protagonist. Haven't watched the series yet -- guess I'll skip that one then, it doesn't seem like it will be closer to my tastes.

I have to admit that it's highly derivative, a fusion of Harry Potter and Narnia with a lot of college undergrad angst blended in. I'm kind of on the bubble about how much I might like the main character and glimpses of where he and the others are headed in the season 2 trailer are not promising. I could grow to hate him--only time will tell . I did fairly enjoy season 1, bingeing through the 13 episodes in a couple of days.

Spoiler!

None of the characters are very likable; I read that in the book it's even more so. They are supposed to be extremely self-absorbed but also that's what makes them be good at magic.

Conclusion: Magicians are dicks.
