Its at 50% at rotten tomatoes so mixed bag. Might watch it for me if I like the genre like I do here (sci fi, horror, crime and comedy are my favorites) I'll go lower on the tomato meter. Especially for sci-fi and horror where its hard to find good movies. Something like dramas which I dont watch too much 50% would be way too low.

It's not a perfect film, but as I mentioned, it had a vibe reminiscent of some of the entertaining small budget sci Fi films from the 80s. I'd put it light years ahead of every single Syfy opus they've foisted on us. It may not appeal to everyone, but it did surprise me as it kept me drawn in, wondering how the plot would resolve itself.
As always, YMMV.

Another recent arrival I.T. decent thriller starring Pierce Brosnan as a billionaire who hires the wrong I.T. person to handle his tech issues.

I enjoyed the "Mars de Plastico" Spanish detective series. Also the German film "Sarajevo" which dramatizes detective investigating the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand which led to WWI. If you're into quirky Hollywood indies "Take the 10" is fun. Some of these indies are often far better than the big blockbuster films.

Netflix originals crush everything from Amazon and Hulu

Netflix is winning the streaming battle with competing services including Amazon Video and Hulu when it comes to original shows, a new report shows. Interestingly, HBO Now isn’t included in the comparison.

Just finished Season 4 of Bates Motel. Lots of dark photography which was handled nicely by our Panny plasma.

Can't wait for Season 5.

Hows the show itself, good storyline, is it scary, thriller? I want to start watching it but the just can't push myself to do so. Though I really like the lead lady mama actress in that show from her young "The Departed" days if you know what I mean lols

Best,

The series has been very good so far. Carlton Cruse is one of very few showrunners who seem to be able to make a long running series work.

Started watching The Fall with Gillian Anderson (Scully from X-Files). British psychological thriller about catching a serial killer. Lingers a bit much on perp (a grief counselor) casing out victims homes and, after killing them, washing and staging bodies and making his own porn.

Conflicted protagonists & antagonists galore.

As per usual great British acting.

Also, take a look at Look Who's Back, a German language black comedy about Adolph Hitler coming back to life in modern times, at first being mistaken as a street performer, gets a sponsor who drives all over Germany talking to folks, becomes a social media phenomenom who gets to be on TV and launches a new populist media movement. Echos strongly of our recent political happening here in the USA.

Horror thriller and recent addition, The Charnel House, may please fans.

And Bollywood heist caper, Happy New Year, (English subtitled) was fun. As well as gorgeous to look at. I don't have a souped up 4K/HDR TV, but on my plain HDTV, it featured brilliant imagery.

And if you're a Star Wars fan, take note, The Clone Wars series has an expiration date of March 7 posted (online in my List).

Has anyone noticed that subtitled movies and shows receive low number of stars even though they are really good. Perhaps, we are among the few Americans who don't mind dealing with subtitles.

Netflix could make billions by bringing ads to its streaming service

Quote:
Ever since the streaming service launched, Netflix has managed to grow and evolve without ever showing a single advertisement. Whenever rumors crop up that ads might be on the table, the company is quick to quash them. In addition, subscribers have repeatedly indicated that they would leave in droves if ads ever came to Netflix. But just how much money could Netflix make if it did start showing commercials?

The Net neutrality ruling is probably gonna cost then huge amounts of money so they might do ads. Either that or raise prices again maybe

Netflix already pays big bucks to all of the major cable ISPs for priority access to their networks. I don't see how the rollback of Net Neutrality effects them much.

That would be super annoying for binge watching... not to mention, I gotta check out 5 diff. things before settling to watch one particular show. That'd be disastrous lol

On any given evening so far I've been able to access Netflix 4K streams at any time. Not so with getting even 1080p on Hulu and my general rule is to wait until after 8:30 PM. This is the way Netflix used to work. BTW, anyone new to Netflix 4K streams should note they will take up to half a minute to ramp up to 4K.
