Netflix Watch Instantly: Gems and Finds

I just noticed they've added 3 new Jack Taylor episodes that aired across the pond 4th quarter of 2016.

I just don't like the "forced" auto-play when you select something in order to read the description ..

The loss of the 5 Star system is also senseless to me .. I have material coming up showing 98% match .. I really don't know what that means other than it's matching what I rated under the 5 Star system ..

On a brighter note, I finally began "The OA" last night and went thru 4 episodes .. excellent ..

If you like "The OA", you may also like the netflix film, The Discovery.

I found The Discovery disappointing, but at least it has Redford in it. I pretty much despised 'The OA'.

You can't really judge The OA until you've watched the whole thing. I found the end of the story to be a disappointment, though I didn't want to demand my time back (as I did when I finished the first season of Hemlock Grove ).

I binged my way through 13 Reasons Why this weekend; intense and IMHO recommendable. I recognized the kid who played Clay from somewhere but couldn't place it. It was from the series Awake, which I really enjoyed.

Pretty neat the newer Netflix app on the UHD Sony disc player has bitrate and resolution. Iron Fist ran 15+ mbps HDR UHD BT2020. No wonder they look so good.

They brought that information back on everything some weeks ago. It's in the Netflix apps on everything I have currently hooked up except for FTV Stick (and it could be on it just summoned with an unknown key): TiVo, Roku, Xbox One S, Xbox 360 and this TV.

Be aware that the bit rate is quoted as a power of 2; multiply by 2^20 to get the normal, decimal number (15.26 Mib/sec = 16 Mb/sec).

I was wondering about the 15.26, seemed odd, but makes sense now. I'm glad they are offering this with more detail.

Really hoping this Brad Pitt war movie is in Dolby Vision. Pretty annoying that outside of the Marvel Shows there is mostly nothing but Adam Sandler garbage and some cooking shows thats in HDR/Dolby Vision.

I think the problem is that HDR is free and Dolby Vision is a license. I expect that AV1 with HDR will win out in the long run because it's royalty free (not to mention open source). Times have changed and Dolby hasn't.

If the Brad Pitt is just in regular HDR thats fine. They have a ton of non-HDR 4k stuff so i was worried the Pitt movie would be 4k but no HDR. Hopefully they pull out all the stops though and make it Dolby.

Season one was good but the Warchowskis seemed to lose their sense of storytelling in the New Year's special. That didn't inspire me to watch season two.

Agreed ending was a bit of a "what just happened". Like getting dumped in highschool with no reason. Closure is crucial. They are coming out with a season 2 of the OA so maybe more answers

Season 2 was actually more coherent than Season 1, it's worth the watch in my opinion, but keep in mind it will end on a cliff-hanger that we'll probably never see resolved. Even so, still worth the viewing.

I don't think the New Year's special was really intended as a story advancement episode, it was more of a "hey, we're still around and this is what we've been doing" type of thing.

If you are into British TV shows (although this one is Australian) and is a period piece (circa 1959) you may find the Doctor Blake Mystery series interesting.

https://www.netflix.com/title/80119121

Available on Netflix since March 31, 2017. We watched all 3 available seasons. The show has a pretty basic format, crime is committed at the beginning and solved by the end of the episode. Little action and more of a whodunit.
