Randomly watched the movie Pelt over the weekend. I am certainly not claiming it to be a great movie by any means, but if you enjoy campy / tongue-in-cheek horror movies, you might have as much fun watching this one as I did.

Supposedly based on Lori Petty's (the actress and director) early life although some question how authentic it actually is.

I've never been to this section before, so i missed it... thank you for the link! When I saw that at the end, i wondered myself if this could be at all like Fargo... "based on a true story" was a complete lie.

Let Me In

If you loved the original, Let The Right One In, this English remake is worth a look. It is practically a carbon copy, though it's hard to fault anyone for that since the original is so great.

I didn't know that I would enjoy it so much since I have watched the Swedish film a couple of times already, but the superb acting of the two young leads makes the story shine anew. I rank it as equally excellent as the original, which is high praise indeed. Thought-provoking in so many complex ways and by far the best vampire movies I have ever watched.

Not in HD, unfortunately, but decent PQ even though it is a Starz play feature.

Gotcha. I mistook the rolling eyes for emphasis and not sarcasm

I haven't seen Twilight or True Blood, but I have a feeling that Let the Right One In is a much different type of vampire movie/show.

Both Let Me In and the original Let the Right One In are quiet little films whose principal protagonists are about 12 years old--no simpering teens and/or early-20-somethings. The story is as tragic and sad as it is horrifying.

I agree with DragonLoaf--both are excellent films featuring some really good acting from the kids who play their leading roles.

It should be noted that Let Me In is Starz Play and standard-def/stereo; the original Let the Right One In is HD/DD+ 5.1 (if, of course, you have a 5.1 player ).

I liked them about equally. The remake is definitely better than I expected, and like several things about it better, such as the

dad/caretaker or whatever he is comes off as much more pathetic/sympathetic in the remake, which I enjoyed. In the original he's more of a drone

You did pick up that he was a former 12 y/o friend of her's and what the new boy will become, didn't you? I ask because you say "whatever he is". A lifetime of murdering people to feed her might beat one down into a bit of a drone.

EDIT: Be warned that the above spoilers are very big spoilers. IMO, peeking at them will pretty much ruin the story for anyone who hasn't seen either film.

Ah yeah. Been awhile since I've seen it and had forgot that part (my memory is going right along with my hairline, which is moving from my head to my back).

That's right, and thanks for reminding me.

I enjoy the asian horror flicks (unique and scary!) but do not like subtitles. Can someone provide recommendations of the US remakes, esp if they are on streaming?

Well done documentary about Bill Withers who recorded some great songs in the 70's & 80's and then dropped out to raise a family and avoid the perils of the recording business

Somehow, I missed the Torchwood buzz --- not knowing about it until the Starz series debuted last week. Was happy to find the entire BBC series on Netflix streaming. Great series from the 8 episodes I've watched thus far. I somehow feel the need to watch all 31 before I get back to the Starz episodes.

Thanks for the tip on this one. Really enjoyed it. I always wondered why I never heard any new songs from him as I enjoyed some of them in the 80's.

$5 a Day

I highly recommend the movie $5 a Day. The movie revolves around a father (Christopher Walken) and his son (Alessandro Nivola) taking a road trip across the U.S. Although the movie has a Hollywood star cast (Sharon Stone & Amanda Peet are also in the movie), $5 a Day is one of the better Indie films I've seen.

The Starz ones won't post for 90days to Netflix so you have time to watch the rest.

The North Face(Ger:Nordwand) is based on a true story of the attempt to climb the north face of the Eiger in 1936, it's in German with English subtitles:
