I'm trying to figure out how to download videos from a website that has public council meetings recorded to put them on youtube, but I'm new to video editing and such and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on freeware available online.

the video in question is found on this site:
http://cnet.pegcentral.com/player.ph...81b82f68b38f0d

thanks in advance

Try a Google search for a program called "Download Helper". It's free but after you D/L a certain number of vids they ask for a donation. It's optional but I use it a lot so I donated a few $$.

There are plug-ins for FireFox and Chrome that will D/L most streaming video and there's also a program called Stream Transport that does it. Haven't tried the vid you linked to but one of these will probably work.

You're right, Download Helper is a Firefox add-on.

were you ever able to get the peg central.com video downloaded? I'm in the exact same boat. need another pegcentral.com video. I can see that the source files are MP4 but they're being rendered and played through their own leightroom flash player, sort of delivering a kind of youtube effect. except that I can see in the html source what the name of the original mp4 file is. i can't figure out how to grab it. i'd be perfectly happy grabbing the swf output from the streamer/player too. but downloadhelper pluggin doesn't recognize pegcentral.com and even using other tools I can't figure out how to capture the stream.

anyone help?

thanks!

Unlike videos on most other sites, videos on pegcentral are copy-protected. Obviously, they do not want you to repost them anywhere else. If you are determined to get it anyway, then you might have to use a generic program that captures activity on your computer screen.

I used Firefox, and there are plenty of video download add-on, you can choose the rated add-ons to try.

That's true, so a antivirus program is necessary

I use Download Helper from Firefox too. It doesn't capture everything but it does work for most.

DL helper is excellent but since there is no version for Chrome I recently started using "Real Player" which is very nice as well. Whenever a video plays a little box pops up "Download this video?" and if you click on it the vid goes to "My Videos" .
