I recently purchased a Panasonic Viera Plasma TV 1080p. I am serious considering dropping cable and keeping just the internet for the iMac. We do not watch TV much. The only one that would watch "some" TV would be our daughter. I am thinking about getting the new Apple TV.

For those that have Apple TV, I am just wondering as far as programming goes, what programs are free (if any)? Any children's programming? My daughter likes programming like the Cartoon Network, Curious George, Fresh Beat Band, and Olivia for starters.

I also have something called VIERA Connect that came with the Panasonic Viera. The programs/services listed under VIERA Connect seems limited unless you subscribe to a streaming service like Hulu or Netflix, I certainly prefer not having commercials.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use the TV with TiVo and/or Apple TV?

It seems like Apple TV and VIERA Connect are simply a conduit for streaming content, correct?

Apple TV has some free content, but most of their content you have to pay to watch.
Viera Connect has Netflix and Amazon, plus a bunch of other paid content. Netflix charges. Amazon Prime is free if you sign up for Amazon shipping.
Viera Connect has some free content like Youtube and a few other internet based video streaming services.
You can use any TV with Tivo or Apple TV.
Apple TV and Viera are a conduit for streaming paid content. YES!!

I would stick with the cable if your dauter wants to watch Cartoon Network, Curious George, Fresh Beat Band, and Olivia for starters.

Netflix has an $8/month charge to stream as much of their content as you want. Amazon's Prime Instant video is at no extra charge for those who pay $80/year for Prime membership (primarily gives you unlimited no-extra-charge 2 day shipping on Prime eligible items and no-extra-charge access to a library of Kindle books, if you own a Kindle), but Prime Instant Video is a subset of the streaming video which they rent and sell.

There's lot of children's content on Netflix and Amazon, though maybe not your daughter's favorites.

If you have Apple TV and the new iPad there is an app called Crackle that Airplays all kinds of content. I watched a movie called Stealth (not bad, Jamie Foxx) with no commercials.
