Not a single email notification that the "free" trial was ending and that they would start charging for a service I never indicated wanting. Meanwhile they have sent multiple spam emails.

I know this isn't an uncommon business tactic but it is still based on dishonesty. We as consumers should not let it go uncriticized.
I've never received a reminder from any type of free trial, including Netflix that it was about to end.

Exactly .. a customer gets a free trial .. IOW, it's free .. if they can't remember to cancel it before the trial ends, how can the company they got it from be held responsible for the customers mistake .. ??

I've been checking back to see if they've added my Samsung C5500 player. I also signed up for them to send a notice when my Sony player is supported though I'm sure I'd notice on it. Not that I would see any reason to sign up again (I only did the trial and yes remembered to cancel in time).

So, has anybody here actually kept a subscription going? Has the selection improved?

You can just check out the selection by going to the redboxinstant.com website and select subscriptions. Not very compelling if you already have Netflix. You can also scroll down to the support section and find what devices you can watch on, that is if they actually keep it up to date.

Anyone using Redbox streaming? Verizon has said it will have fewer choices than Netflix, but will be better, more popular choices.

Has anyone compared?

Picture quality? When I tried Netflix, they had very little in HD and SD picture quality on a HD TV was not very good.

Anyone with experience?

Thanks!

Jaums

Although they do seem to be growing, user reviews have been, shall we say, less than stellar ..

There is no comparison. Redbox instant isn't even in the same ballpark. If you hate Netflix, you're really going to hate Redbox.

It's probably a solution for low volume users of streaming who find themselves renting at Redbox. For instance within two miles of where I live their are 11 kiosks. I can always find a DVD or BD at one of those kiosks. But I mainly use Redbox for weekends when I'm likely to see rebuffering or SD presentations of HD titles because NF is not up to the demand. I tried the beta and agree it just wasn't a replacement at all for NF.

What different about them? Content, HD content, picture quality, busy on weekends or ?

I tried Netflix about a year ago, any improvements since then?

All of the above. As I posted earlier in the thread, I couldn't find a single streaming title I wanted to watch during my entire month trial. I watched a couple anyway just to try it out. HD was acceptable, but the interface is awful, no queue to speak of, hard to navigate library. NF has far more and far better quality titles and a good interface. Most everything I watch is HD.

App is hitting Roku I guess. Im gonna sign up, because here is how I look at it. For $9 a month, I get their streaming plus $6.60 in blu-ray credits, so its costing me very little to have their streaming added on. I rent 6-8 movies a month from redbox, so Ill use all the credits smile.gif

You can judge for yourself, but you're going to want your $2.40 back after you try the streaming.

I streamed Hugo earlier and the PQ was fine. It even has the same 4 dot and "HD" blue marker like Amazon.

I've always found Redbox websites to be a bit buggy. It wants to always show me a location I seldom use, I change it and it won't stick. I wanted to post a review of a film the other day. It said I needed to be logged in to post the review in spite of the fact that it was showing my username for reviews meaning I WAS logged in which at the top showed I was too. It took a bit of rigmarole to get it to allow me to post the review (a good one BTW). They must be using cheap web builders.

Their mobile app (for Android, at least) is even worse. It's crashed on me so many times in the middle of trying to see what's available. Not trying to reserve, not trying to find a kiosk, just seeing what movies are out there.

Once I do choose a movie, then it'll try to locate a kiosk nearby. That only works a third of the time, despite every other app on my phone using the GPS function just fine. I don't even want to think what it'll do if I try to actually reserve something. Probably donate my entire credit limit to the United Way or something.

Don't believe everything on the Interwebz! A duck's quack DOES echo!

Their normal site for rental flicks from a kiosk or finding a movie at a Kiosk works fine for me. I have an account with them, and have about 8 kiosks as favorites. When I pick a movie to find, it'll show me which on of my favorites has the flick. Not along ago though that site was pretty rough to use.
