Sigh. Don't these companies make billions? Sort out your problems and differences and fix this $hit. We are paying you monthly for a service that's not even guaranteed to function at its fullest. Unacceptable.

I might as well cancel both my netflix and verizon subscriptions.

First the aspect ratio nonsense, now this.

I kind of doubt that the dispute is the reason for your problems; Netflix and Verizon have a deal to establish direct connections from Verizon's networks to Netflix's CDN. It might take some months for all of Verizon's networks to get those connections.

By "aspect ratio nonsense" do you mean that one film?
I don't really know what's the reason but it's either Verizon or Netflix's fault. I only get 1080p during the day. At night it's mostly at 480p and barley gets to 720p. Ridiculous. Only a select few titles may get to 1080p sometimes............Yes so far i only noticed Beverly Hills Cop has the aspect ratio change. I haven't checked other movies. I wonder if it's because it's being broadcast regularly now for the summer? Though what that would have to do with Netflix i have no idea. But it's my theory.

I noticed this weekend that WWZ was in the OAR on Netflix streaming. While on Amazon streaming it was cropped. The Netflix stream looked much better. At least the Netflix SuperHD that was streaming while I had it on.

It's probably because Verizon wants you to use Red Box Instant during evening hours exclusively!

Heh. I wouldn't be surprised that were true. These companies are ruthless.

Well. Beverly Hills Cop 2 is back to its original aspect ratio. So there's that. It's at 480p right now though of course.

I don't understand why you all even keep FiOS espeically those who can get Cablevision unless you have are stuck in a 2 year contract. I ditched Verizon for there phone service years ago and switched over to T-Mobile first with pay as you go and now post pay and I love it. Verizon is good for crazy fees and price increases every month. I am changing the subject but for those with FiOS switch back to cable as you most likely will be happier.

Price increases every month? Not here. My prices have gone down from what I paid FiOS and Verizon wireless years ago. And I get more HD content and faster internet speed than I had back then too..

he just spews things that he has no idea about then repeats it ad nauseam. I never had an issue with fios streaming things and this agreement with Verizon makes things better. I would never go back to cable, I enjoy the Fios uploads too much.

Ok, but are they still hitting you with all that tax? Since I don't have Fios, I can only go by my Verizon phone bills, which have more surcharges and taxes then carter has little pills.

Tax has nothing to do with the provider. That has to do with the local, state, and federal government. The are the one implementing more taxes.

Well I guess the stupid regional Sports network fee that was added can be blamed on Verizon. That sucks especially since I typically will not watch any of those channels.

The problem I have with Verizon is, that when they quoted me pricing, those fees were not included. With Cablevision they were. I like comparing apples to apples, not apples to oranges. Plus it makes it harder to read the bill.

Ian might be having problems finding Carter Little Liver Pills anymore.

In other news I noted that my ancient Sony BDP-480S showed an app update notice and that the Netflix icon had changed to the new red letters on white and indeed the title display updated however checking to see if they replaced the player API they didn't. I tried a TV show that was SuperHD on Chromecast and it showed having problems streaming at anything more than 1.2 mbps. I do use the Hulu app on the player when Hulu has problems coming in on the Chromecast and I do get HD streams.

Actually, the provider passes on some of the "taxes/fees" which they do not have to do. You can read an example on http://news.slashdot.org/story/13/05...act-cell-plans

To view the Netflix movie page for Jaws, click here. Netflix has it as both DVD and Blu-ray, both formats have no waits, but, as you stated, it's not available for streaming from Netflix.

I subscribe to both the streaming and disc plan (with Blu-ray option) because, as you also said, the streaming movie selection is quite restricted. Also, for action scenes, Blu-ray and even DVD handle massive movements on the screen much better than streaming.

Sorry, I am not in the best of moods at the moment; I have this nice 50-in 1080p 1.78:1 TV, watching Independence Day (OAR: 2.35:1) on a DVD I purchased a number of years ago, and it's pan-and-scan (1.33:1), so I am seeing only 57% of the picture, and that in SD! (And, no, Independence Day (1996) isn't available for streaming on Netflix.)

My very humble setup:
Man Cave:Vizio E500i-A1 "Smart TV" (50-in 1080p 120Hz LED/LCD, has Netflix app.), Blu-ray players (Sony BDP-S3100, old LG BD390), Roku (the original model: N1000), PC (Windows 7), Comcast Internet (25Mbps/5Mbps).
Bedroom:LG 32LV3400-UA TV (32-in 768p 60Hz LED/LCD), HD DVR (Motorola RNG200N), Xfinity Comcast cable (Digital Starter Package), DVD/VHS player.

Jaws is readily available to stream as a rental, but no one has it as part of a buffet plan, not Netflix, Amazon or Hulu. There are thousands of famous films as old as Jaws or older that you have to pay to view. That's just life in the big city.

I was recently looking to stream Tarantino's films; you can get Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill from Netflix, but no True Romance (arguably the least of the films, but I liked it). You can even get Death Proof, though not in the US region.

As I expected the 4th was a good night to watch Netflix as folks are doing other things and I don't care about fireworks. So I binge watched the remaining three episodes of "Hidden" a BBC mini-series all in SuperHD.

So that explains it! I was watching a movie and despite the fact I have Open Connect, it dropped down twice to 480p! Re-booted the router and all was good after that.

Wow so now you know how annoying it is when it does that. Netflix must think we are stupid that I can't tell a difference between there Super HD eyeIO codec and there crappy VC-1 SD encodes.

I did watch The Smurfs 2 on my apple TV no problems but after trying to watch Lab Rats it dropped down to SD twice in 5 minutes so I watched it on the Roku 3 it took a bit longer to ramp up but played fine.

I don't know whether they're using eyeIO for the lower bit rate encodes (though I would fully expect them to) but I'm pretty sure that everything is AVC at this point, except maybe for some WMV created for old, old devices.

Thanks. I thought it was VC-1 but I think Amazon still uses that which is why there lower bit rate content looks better.
