Hi there. I'm looking for the best STB for playing back full-size uncompressed blu-ray rips in MKV format with DTS-HD audio support. Everything I've read seems to show that the Roku will do this. It supports MKV files, and will pass-through the HD audio. it also has a USB for connection to an external HDD.
Do you guys have any experience using the Roku for this? Is there a box you'd recommend more?
You might want to post this ask in the "Networking, Media Servers & Content Streaming" forum. That being said, Rokus are definitely not the best device for your purposes; its file playing capabilities are extremely limited. If you want something with an ability to also stream network VOD services like Netflix, VUDU and Hulu Plus, I'd recommend the WD TV Live. I recently bought one and was astonished at the range of files that it will play. If you don't care about network VOD there are plethora of other choices; see the other forum for those.
If your file playback needs are within the Roku's capabilities then it'll work for the purpose though the USB channel UI is pretty drab.
