A walk down memory lane...

From the Netflix On PS3 goes disc-free...(Gets 1080p streaming and DD+ 5.1 surround sound) thread, PS3 Forum

I'm loathe to mention this since I've done a ton of whining, complaining, moaning over how much I can't stand the new PS3 UI I'm stuck with, but...

I use the Sony bluetooth remote when watching Netflix. But today,I had the controller in my hands, and after loading NF, I accidentally hit the right front button 1 and saw the queue advance forward by 3 dvd covers. Hitting button 2, the covers jumped 5 places. The left buttons 1 and 2 move you backwards in the queue, and all the genre rows. I did not know this. And with the torrent of complaints that came with this UI since February, why the heck did NF not tell anyone who criticized the interface's need to scroll one at a time across in a single row?
So if you use your controller, you can at least move around a bit faster.

It's still a vastly inferior UI than the one I had.

Sticks fingers in ears {{Still bad!!! Still bad!!! Don't like it!! Change it back!!!}}

I was hoping against hope that the main UI would be changed or altered to something as flexible as our previous UIs, but no such luck. (And I'm still plagued with the 'zoomed in' UI that resulted from the Oct 19 update. Doesn't look like they will be doing anything to fix this. )

Several Facebook posters have reported this since the week began. When a tv show ends, the credits are reduced to a box-a la network tv, and promos for other stuff runs as well as the play next feature.
I'm really not looking forward to further credit smushing. Sometimes, you'll see an actor in something, but can't place their name.

^^I just saw it do this last night after watching a movie ''Blood and Bone''. Credits reduced to a box in the upper left corner, underneath it, dvd covers for other titles, and the entire right side features a recommended title based on the movie just watched with option to play. The recommended title offered-the Bernie Mac Show, bore no resemblance to the movie at all, and neither did any of the other titles. Tried to back out and return to the credits but pressing O just took me back to the title summary UI. It's not as bad as I feared-at least this first time, it seemed to wait until after the actor credits passed by.

Of all the enhancements they could do, the one I'd most appreciate is returning full page viewing of each genre back to the main UI, rather than this confining scroll across in one line business they stuck us with for over a year now.

My, how time-and Netflix UI versions, flies by.

My PS3 got the newest iteration of their UI-hadn't turned on the console until Saturday night. Initial impressions. Sigh. Heavy sigh. Everything I didn't like about the last one remains and is enhanced, while everything I wanted to see back remains elusive. Useful features now removed-the already reported ''Play from Beginning'' tab now gone.

Careful what you wish for...

I never thought I'd ever pine fpr the now departed version, but after a mere 10 minutes of scrolling, this new design sure has me wanting it back. As the app opens, we're now greeted with a title the algorithms think might be of interest. ''Extreme Cheapskates'' was not something I'd think my viewing history would turn up.

The squashed horozontal tiles vs classic vertical movie covers, now has only 1 genre  row visible, underneath a very large picture. For me, that's a huge waste of screen real estate that I'd prefer to see devoted to more content.

Addionally, while the movie/show title is in large white letters, the font color for the underlying summary is a medium gray, ontop of a black background. Making the already small text harder to read. Same for tv series episode columns. Thumbnails for episodes are unnessesarily darkened until you scroll over to an episode...Overall, oppressively dark, for no good reason. Headache from eyestrain incoming. Pictures taken with my tablet are included here-but, the tablet's camera is brightening the images, allowing you to see the text as brighter than it shows on the television.

The Search page is now confined to a single screen.

Before, the keypad and results were on one page, and you arrowed over to a 2nd with dvd covers for related content. The new setup has the squarish tiles loaded next to the keypad & related Actor names under it. Scrolling down to see further returns...It's odd, since it shouldn't matter whether you scroll across to reach a 2nd page or down, but it results in a more cramped feeling than before.

As mentioned in another thread, the number of titles in each row is no longer shown. The ''Max'' feature is still present and wasting space in the row list. Since it's now a part of the new Menu option, why can't it be removed for those who never use it?

End credits HULK SMASH PUNY END CREDITS!!!!

Arrgh...the video window has been FURTHER reduced in size, and arrowing up was very slow to get back up to the box in order to go full screen. I didn't like this before, and this again, makes the feature worse. I do not want tv network style interference with closing titles, or auto play the next episode.

I've often whined commented :D on how the Netflix app for consoles should take greater advantage of a console's horsepower, and I suppose this new version does just that. But really, this new design takes the previous version's restrictiveness and adds to it further, limiting the ability to search and discover beyond the selections saved in your Queue.

All they need to do is 1) return single page viewing of each genre along with sub genres & the old 150-175 number of titles per genre, 2) add the genre sidebar found in the Netflix Android app so you can go directly to the section of your choice without scrolling, and 3) Make post play/move to next episode optional-let the people who like it have it, and those of us that don't, the ability to turn it off, and 4) restore brighter text color. They can keep this design if they like, but the first 3 are vital to enjoying the experience.

:)

The Xbox One Netflix app, as mentioned last week during the rollout of the new design, will have a different look than the now standard one.

And video of the Xbox One app. More info, more screens, genre pages. More of what I want, just on the wrong console. Sigh.
