Woopee! They're starting to charge for cable cards. Another $10 tacked on to the bill-in addition to the $10 dollars they tacked on in January...

Hows that Net Neutrality working out for you guys? Oh thats right. More govt intervention didn't do anything did it?
Hows about we try some free markets and let Comcast compete with everyone else? That just might lower prices if they had some competition.

Nothing about Net Neutrality prevents any company from competing with Comcast. Your comment is nonsensical.

Until wireless cable evolves, ISP's will continue to monopolize the industry.

Aren't you supposed to get a $2.50 device discount for a CableCard device?

The first card was free, and $2.50 if you needed a second. Now, it appears, that's toast.

That is very likely due to local legislation(use your vote and vote them out!), and again, nothing to do with net neutrality. And thank you for playing as well.

One man's losing fight to use his own modem

Free modem? I don't see the real issue here. However, I do recognize the fact that you should have the option to use your own compatible equipment, whether it saves you money or not.

Keenan is right METALSABER.

Has to do with local/state laws and regulations, not net neutrality. Not even the same argument.

But these local laws that ALLOW cable companies operate this way is the problem.

They are NOT FORCED to compete with each other.

Where I am in NW PA I have Spectrum. 1-2 miles down the road is a COMCAST area. And still, 1 mile in the other direction is ARMSTRONG servicing just one local town.

BUT NONE are in competition with each other in there given areas. And that is the HUGE problem that congress/FCC need to address.

If I opened up a McDonalds, NO ONE can stop you from opening up a BURGER KING across the street. Or any other type of fast food competition, or food competition whatsoever.

More headaches for Comcast Customers

I posted this over on Dave Zatz's Blog http://zatznotfunny.com/2017-02/xfinity-roku-app/#comment-79901 regarding the new Roku app, but thought it might be relevant here if anyone wants to try it on theirs?:

I set a recording for a Philly Flyers showing this morning last night and was able to just now watch it. I was shocked so I also set a 76ers recording along with MANY other shows and was able to watch the Sixers too. The other shows are all scheduled to record. I don’t see why they wouldn’t. I’ll report back if they don’t though, otherwise it seems that Cloud DVR is active no matter what with this app, as long as you have a TV subscription with them. Give it a shot everybody and let us know what happens!

omg, tell me about it.
The "broadcast" fee just went up and now I get to pay more (7.99/mo) for a second box so we can watch tv on an old 36" in a spare room.
I just started a trial of Hulu commercial free. I may just return the extra cable box back since we're getting much more use out of Hulu for $12.

My Theater room: 13x10, 92" screen, Epson 3500 projector on shelf, Onkyo Tx-SR504 in 6.1 mode, Klipsch Quintet iii speakers, Dayton 12" sub, Sony Blu-Ray/3D, Xbox 360
Family room: 46" Samsung 3D tv, Pioneer VSX-454 receiver, JBL ES20 speakers, Sony 3D Blu-Ray, Fire TV, Xbox 360, Wii
Future plans: better seating for the theater, possible upgrade to Atmos

In my city there are 2 cable companies. The oldest company covers all of the city. The newer company can not use the infrastructure of the older company. So if they want to come into my neighborhood, they would have to lay it's own cable. The government is not telling the older company to allow the newer company to use it's system. That's free enterprise. So if the smaller company wants to spread across the city, it's at their expense. if the government were to step in and force the older company to concede, it would be like Burger King moving across the street from McDonalds and forcing McDonalds to give Burger King it's burgers, so Burger King could thrive.

That's low. I can understand requiring a certain model from a support standpoint, but not allowing purchase is not right.

Also, if you want the thread title changed, but report a post (or first post) and ask for thread title change.

I'm stuck with comcast for now. I pay for 150/20 and get about 200/25 regularly. I opted to pay the little extra to remove the data cap (last month I used 3TB of data) I have a Arris SB6183 and an Asus AC3200 router. I don't pay for TV or phone service. I stream all my TV and movies that aren't on disc. Soon though AT&T is where I'm going to go. They started offering fiber internet in neighborhoods around me. They say they are expanding coverage and it's available only a few miles from me so there's hope. 1Gbit up and down $80/mo and the special in the area is no data cap for new subscribers. After the initial 12month promotion it's about what I pay now for more than quadruple the speed and I'm sure I can tell them comcast is offering me cheaper service and get another promo. I just hope it comes soon, I could always use faster speeds for streaming off 4 TVs.

I dumped Comcast when they encrypted Basic channels. Their customer retention person told me she'd rather give up her cellphone than cable TV. I replied, "yeah, sure."

Here there are two lines on the poles, one for AT&T and the other for Comcast. Wave is in this community but not on this block. I have my suspicions that for some reason Wave comes right down to street above me and makes a right turn up that street. Why they won't provision is street is beyond me. According someone who had Wave in a nearby community and when they moved here wanted it. Even with the house across the street having Wave for some reason they couldn't provide service to them. Apparently it required city council approval to get the line on the utility poles.

Wink TWC customers needed to be moved "in the right direction"

This what happens when you reduce competition.

Charter has moved millions of customers to new and often higher pricing.
