JVC had an high contrast prototype/demonstrator years ago, before it abandonned the 8K and regular 4K, non-shift, panels and projectors. Well not completely abandonned the 4K, E&S for instance still uses those projectors in its Digistar 5 systems, those or Sony's. But the 8K Cinema projector was abandonned for a cheaper e-shift version.

oops, this says it is 8K with the second stage being 3x 4K, I always understood it to be the otherway round.

i saw a video from a show and a VIP from TI or Christie told to get 70.000:1 may a bit more.
not mil.:1.
this technique was long time ago develop by Zeiss and they have a 2.5 mil. :1.
inside the lab there the measure much more than this but they not post this numbers.
i know as i talk with some VIP at Zeiss about it long time ago.
i doubt that anybody from the DCI Pr. manufacturer can do 1 mi.:1 or above even with this technique as the Zeiss was a low lumen pr.
and the big laser dci 4k pr. have do deal with a lot more light but you never know.....

Okay, I was too late to see LJGs post, so I could only speculate, perhaps conjecture.

Wolfgang that's the Velvet indeed. There was also the SEOS aswell as Barco with the same Belgian LCoS manufacturer, that went belly up as the projectors were ready. No possibility for SEOS to redesign its just launched projector.
