I'm real interested in seeing how good the new Sony 4K unit looks. My concern is the lumens. With a 700 to 800 watt lamp it should be able to do 2000 lumens unless to get decent sequential contrast it requires a major stopped down iris.

Once they have a home cinema compatible model I'm interested (>= 30000:1, HDMI in as well, internal high end upsampling from 1080p to 4K, <= 2000 Lumen).

I can't wait for the day you are finally satisfied, it will be followed by a lunar eclipse and unexplained tidal changes, no doubt.

update about hd cp.

seams the 4k jvc pr.now have hd cp at all 4 dvi input and that means barco will have it as well
but the unit only understand progressiv inputformats no interlace.

for interlace you need a scaler.

nice!

Where is a 2k to 4k scaler? JVC did not have one at CEDIA they were playing a mix 2k and 4k content upconverted to 4k and 4k graphics.

Only Meridian has a scaler working... It's pretty good.

I like this technology for 3D because 3D is best served close.

there is no need for a scaler as the barco/jvc 4k pr. can scale everything
from 720x480 to 1920x1080 resolution in progressiv to
4k.

ach so. I did not know. That is great. The JVC looked fine at CEDIA.

So the reason meridian is doing a scaler is because they are using a larger piece of the panel with anamorphics;10mp?

This projector seems like it may be Vaporware. Nothing to be found about it.

Why buy Barco when you can get the JVC straight from the horse's mouth?

Specs appear identical.

I would imagine a potential service delta.

There may many be other reasons too, such as selected units, improved software etc. Im not saying there are, but you cant make a judgment on a limited spec sheet alone.

They would do well to add a few more lens choices to the mix, as Meridian appears to be doing. Specifically long throw.

Offically at least JVC wasn't selling them till recently, Barco launched its version to the European market at the beginning of the year, so for a while the Belgian's were the only source.

Hopefully quality control is better than what Wolfgang experienced, shipping projectors with a known issue, without informing the buyer (pin 37 issue he mentioned), and a problematic light engine...

I've been hearing a number of reports regarding Barco's QC and particularly thier reliability and service. Christie certainly seem to have a clear superiority in that area

I imagine the JVC SH4k picture but with the Barco image quality, it's a very special touch. NUANCE.

I don't expect any reliability issues beyond those endemic to the JVC version.

There was a huge breakfast shootout with all the major DCI players at Showeast and the Barco's Doby 3d blew the Christie's Real D out of the convention center.

If you want the barco image superiority but are concerned about a failure, then buy two. That is the only way to do High contrast high lumen 3d.

Here is the LX-5 3d stack in rear projection...

You see what I have been saying with 3D and rear projection, imagine a 16' by 9' 4k rear screen image. That is the ultimate 3d rig. I want one...
