Take a stand with the White House Now!

Over in the "DTV Transition Delay" discussion, foxeng posted an article from B&C, about the White House wanting public comment.

WS65711 then posted a post by mathwiz, giving the link to the White House Bill and comment webpage. Act now and have your opinion heard.

I voiced my opinion....This is one small business that will be sorely impacted by the delay. We've put lots of money into advertising and preparing for the 17th, and all that goes down the drain with the delay.

There has already been a noticeable shift in demand for converters since the house vote on it.

What's the point of even having a comment period for something that Obama asked for and will sign? I can bet that even if comments were running 100% against him signing, he'll sign anyway.

I think that this would never had happened if the FCC implemented the transition first by shutting all stations off the 1st of January for 24 hours. Maybe only transmitting a message saying, this is what's going to happen after Feb 17. After that the stations would only transmitt from 7am to 10pm analog and after that only digital, again leaving a message saying, "this is whats going to happen after Feb 17, get your converter box". Thats what I call transitioning, not cutting everything from one day to the other.

I still say NBC should have done a 4 hour test on Sunday night.

You understand it is not a transition, but an analog shutdown?

All major stations have had a parallel digital operation for several years (over 3.5 years here in Detroit).

Perhaps they should turn the analog on and off this way, but why should the people who got ready for digital suffer because of idiots. Leave the digital on and play games with the analog.

(This requires stations to use their temporary digital frequency until analog is shutoff for keeps. Then the stations that have a "final move" can make it.

That's exactly right, though. You eventually have to cause SOME pain for SOME people in order to get them to move off the couch. Selective paring down of the daily analog lineup could have certainly gone a long way.

You're obviously not a football fan (neither am I, but I don't begrudge those that are )

I wouldn't want them to miss their big event, just like I don't want to miss NASCAR.

You CAN put antennas on your owned and/or controlled property...

I have an idea on how to break the motivation barrier that threatens to leave people without converters to lose all access to television.

A voluntary agreement among TV stations to end NTSC COLOR transmission, on May 1st, with only monochrome transmissions through June 12.

The loss of color would provide, to many, a solid reason to get the boxes hooked up, it would produce a constant reminder that conversion is needed, and would serve as a constant "soft test" to see which sets are ready. Those objecting to the change wouldn't be able to plead that it would cause the loss of emergency/security communications to anyone.

Slogan: "May 1st is MAY DAY for analog TV!"

I like that idea! They should put a constant scroller on at the bottom of the screen, too. You can still see your show, but if you want to see it in color without the scrolling banner, get a converter box!

Not at the bottom of the screen, put it in the center. And make it red. It'll stand out better that way against a black and white picture.
