Looking further at some of the other forum discussions, I realize that most of my questions may be answered in other forum sections. - Sorry if my post was in the wrong place. (I also learned that the Stones, in Shine a Light, are really looking old. - Sounds like I should stick with some of my older Stones DVD's.)

I'm interested in classic movies, and concerts. Although I realize that the audio on older movies won't be spectacular, does anyone have recommendations relative to BDs of some of the classics such as Casablanca, Sound of Music, Lawrence of Arabia, American in Paris, Dr. Zhivago, 2001, Godfather, Star Wars, West Side Story, James Bond, My Fair Lady, etc. Again, I realize the sound may not be the best, but the wide-screen films should look nice. Also, it would seem that travel docs, such as those of Rick Steves, would look great on BD.

I'm also looking for good concert BDs. For example, the Rolling Stones (Shine a Light, Biggest Bang?), Johnny Cash, John Denver, Oakridge Boys, etc. Also, classical music, including opera (such as Die Fledermaus, Magic Flute, Carmen, Aida, etc.) and ballet (such as Swan Lake, the Nutcracker, etc.) I understand that Opus Arte already has lots of opera and ballet music, some with lossless audio codecs.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Jim Cate

Sony has said they're working on Lawrence for this or next year. An American in Paris, Godfather, and Casablanca are already on the format, but I haven't seen them to comment on quality. As for classics that I have seen: Warner did a tremendous job with How the West Was Won and The Searchers. There are about a dozen of the Bond films available already. And judging by your tastes in music, you might like to check out The Last Waltz, and Roy Orbison: Black and White Night. Neither show off the best HD video can look, but both feature lossless sound and offer terrific performances.

Hi Mr. Potts-

I searched the thread and also the disk reviews and didn't see it mentioned - have you done a review on the original Terminator movie on BR? Just wondering how it stacks up to the DVD. Some reviews on Amazon.com said not to bother, some said there was improvement. Just wondering what your take would be.

Thanks!

Regards,

I do a search for "Terminator" and get three threads listed:

this one, T2, and Amityville Horror (mentions a Terminator preview). I can't find the review, hence my question.

Greetings,

Sorry about that. I was referring to my review of T2: Skynet Edition. In the review I mention several times that I have not seen the original T2 Blu-ray Disc release.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Gotcha, now I see the problem. I was asking about the original Terminator movie, not T2.

Mr.Potts, i have been a member for a bit now and I only joined because I love to read you reviews. I dont agree with all of them but I do find them intuitive and they certainly lead me to make my decisions on some. I just wanted to know do you have an idea/clue when "The Lord of the Rings" or "Gladiator" will release on BD??? I would really appreciate any help on these 2 releases. Thanks

Hi Ralph,

When will you possibly be reviewing "Fletch"? I only ask because I really enjoy your reviews and it is my favorite comedy of all time! I have read "other" reviews and as I expected, the video and audio quality aren't great but I will probably still buy it just because of my opinion of the movie. Thanks!

I know that Memoirs of a Geisha has been out on Blue Ray for some time, but I haven't seen a review on it by you. The DVD version had beautiful cinematography that I would imagine might look fantastic on Blu Ray.

Are you planning to review this disc or did I miss yours?

People often over look asian blu-ray release, they are among best transfer for blu-ray, since many of their movie has dual 7.1 hd lossless sound, and red cliff is among the very best transfer out there, 3 7.1 sound (pcm, doulby true hd and even dts master 7.1) movie is also good not to mention.

These here are both EXCELLENT for BluRay Audio:

2L Audiophile Reference Recordings: The Nordic Sound [Blu-ray]

MAHLER: Symphonie No. 2 in C minor 'Resurrection' - Music Experience in 3-Dimensional Sound Reality [7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio Disc] [Blu-ray]

Oh, by the way, can you add Dark City Directors Cut to this list?

Saw everyones raves for "Orphanage". Thought I would check it out. Went to the local Block buster and rented it on blu-ray. How come no one mentions that this movie is in Spanish? Only Spanish DTS-HD Master. No option for English. Is there an English version? Really don't want to read subtitles even if the audio is amazing.

It's the same as Pans Labyrinth. Excellent audio, excellent movie and foreign language - English subtitles. Hey, at least you didn't buy it. But one would figure you would research it first before taking the plunge.

Don't let the subtitles throw you off...like Pan's, it's an amazing movie! Dubbing the movie in english would just ruin it
