Saw this tonight on Blu Ray and was pretty disappointed. I like Ben Stiller. I like silly. But I am glad I only rented this stinker.

Kaboom.

+1.

I too like a bit of Stiller but this movie was truly awful imo. I didn't laugh once it was that bad.

When this pile finally finished me and the wife just sat looking at each other in disbelief. Then she said:"Now there's two hours of my life I'm never getting back..". We both really didn't like this film. It was trying way to hard and kept failing. I sniggered occationally, but that waws more from the epic fail of the film itself... Now maybe I just didn't 'get' the humour or whatever, but this was just disappointing.

Well, for starters, I love this movie. I was not able to see it in the theaters but bought it on the day of release on Blu-ray. I watched it 3 times in a row the first night I watched it. The third time, I watched it with the star's commentary.

The scenery and imagery is awesome. The sound is wonderful. Stiller's direction was very good - a bit of a stretch from what he usually makes.

But the diamond-in-the-rough here is Robert Downey Jr. He really made his character believable and down to earth. He says, "I know what dude I am. I'm the dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude!" and "Man, I don't drop character 'till I done the DVD commentary."

Downey Jr's nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Tropic Thunder is well deserved. I firmly believe if Heath Ledger was still alive, Downey Jr may even have a chance to win...

It seems this is a mpvie you either love to death or fiercely hate. I think I need to watch it again with an open mind and see if I can see the stuff you guys do. I want to like it, I like Stiller, Downey and Black, and I am a fan of silly comedy...

Greetings,

Give it another spin. I saw it theatrically and liked it better the second time I viewed it.

Cheers,

I laughed a lot in many places, but it was too long.
My favorite part was the beginning where Ben Stiller takes about 100 bullets, with at least 10 hitting him in the heart, and he gives his death speech with the shredded hands.

Costco is selling this for $16.99. I think Paramount is having a sale.

That's possibly due to the fact that it's the longer Director's Cut. Paramount should have made the theatrical version available on BD.

I loved Tropic Thunder, BTW.

Great movie and Downey Jr IMO should have won the oscar for best supporting actor. yeah, I think Ledger was great as the joker but Downey Jr was just flat out better in this.

Tropic Thunder is an almost or it is an over-the-top comedy action.
Robert is formidable in his impersonation of his character, amazing transformation.
The entire cast is great, their acting skills shows on screen.

And the blu-ray is top notch quality. I enjoy big time this movie.
