Great review Ralph and totally agree. The video on this Blu-Ray is stunning. When I fired it up and couldn't believe what I was seeing. By the end, I felt like I had seen the movie for the first time and almost wanted to start clapping.

This is a "must have" for any Blu-Ray collector.

Watched this last week and agree with Ralphs review.....Reference PQ/AQ and a great movie as well Having said that, I am glad I rented as I just dont see myself watching this one again for some reason. This makes me VERY excited for the INCREDIBLES though!

I just got done watching it and WOW, makes me not that excited going to see Disney's UP this week knowing that the movie theater will not be able to match (A Bugs Life + Pioneer Kuro + PS3). I am an animation junkie and I will watch this many more times.

Proud owner of a Pioneer E-Lite 50" with ISF-Day/Night enabled!!

Just picked this up after going over your review. Will be watching it tonight.

By the way, Toys R Us has this and the other Pixar films on sale for $19.99 right now.

Thanks for the heads up! Just started collecting Blu-ray titles. Purchased my first Blu-ray earlier this week, "The Pixar Short Films Collection: Volume 1". Figured I might as well continue the trend, so I stopped by my local TRU late last night and picked up "A Bug's Life", "Cars", "Ratatouille", and "Wall-E" for $19.99 each. :-)

No problem, and thats quite a good haul you've got there. I still need to get Cars and Ratatouille as well, but I've been juggling my hobbies (Mustang, movies/ht and video games, sometimes I think my wife would like to kill me lol).

On the blu ray version of A Bugs Life,
Is anyone else noticing the slight distortion in the voices of some of the bugs, sometimes when they are talking?

I've only been collecting Blu-ray now since I bought my player back on black Friday last year (I'm only up to 17 currently, as compared to my nearly 1000 DVD's). I just got A Bug's Life, and it's the first Blu-ray I've bought that's an upgrade to a title I already owned on DVD. I was looking forward to finally comparing a standard-def DVD and a high-def Blu-ray transfer on my own TV. As good as the DVD transfer is (and it really is quite excellent), the Blu-ray really does improve it even more. So much crisper, clearer, and brighter. Everything just pops. Can't wait to upgrade the rest of my Pixar collection. I skipped the Wall-E DVD and went straight to Blu on that one since it came out close enough that I knew I was getting a Blu-ray player. Now I need to pick up Cars and Ratatouille, and then endure the long wait until the rest are released.

Finished watching this and have to say sensational. I loved it. PQ and Sq just the best. Keep bringing more Pixar titles.

The video quality is really stunning! Anyway I was waiting for this release for a long time because I read the 1st Classic Disney Short in HD would have been included. I mean "The Grasshopper and The Ants" , a wonderful Silly Symphony . The sad thing is when I watched the Blu-ray I discovered this short in not HD native but upconverted from NTSC source.
As soon as I watched it I noticed it's not as sharp as recent Disney Classic releases on Blu-ray, despite it should have a Technicolor negative source too (Such as Pinocchio for example) , it looks soft. Then I compared it with the version included in old Silly Symphonies DVD: there are the same 3 negatives alignment problems there were on the DVD; this lead me to think the DVD and the Blu-ray shared the same source. The problem more is evident in the first scenes, expecially in the scene where an ant is pulling a big tomato. I hoped the source master for both DVD and HD on Blu-ray was an HD 1920x1080 one, but the HD brings no more details than DVD, and I got the information the source is an NTSC Digibeta.
Having an unscaled material on Blu-ray sucks a lot, expecially an animation classic such as a Silly Symphony!

About 4 months late to the party but I finally snagged a copy and watched it last night. As Ralph and everyone else here have remarked the PQ/AQ of this BD is remarkable and night and day when compared to the old DVD. Everyone has a favorite character in this movie and ours was Heimlich the caterpillar. According to the Disney website it looks like Monsters, Inc. is due out on Blu-ray on November 10, 2009 which also coincides with the BD release of the wonderful Pixar movie UP!. This hopefully clears the way for another favorite Pixar film Finding Nemo.

This is a fantastic transfer and Monsters Inc is even better for me. I have the UK version of Monsters and the sense of depth in the picture and audio dynamics put it above even this killer Bugs Life transfer.
