I think that it might have some stiff competition in Monsters Inc that comes out Tuesday as well. I hope that Ralph or Lee review that one as well. Monsters Inc was amazing on DVD, I can only imagine it being gorgeous on blu-ray...but all of the pixar movies have gotten steller reviews from Ralph.

Love my BDP-09!

Should I be concerned about the "viscously" trained dogs? Are they "globs" of fun or do they hurt the movie's "flow?"

All joking aside, this is a great review and I'm now really looking forward to seeing this one at home.

Thanks!

IMO, Disney should be left out from getting any of the praise for any of these movies

It's all Pixar!

Disney stays out and lets them do what they do best, and what they have been doing before Disney came along (Toy Story).. great stories, characters, and visually stunning

Let's hope they continue like this for years to come!

Ralph,

You should be making commissions on the number of disc your reviews sell. As someone who does not generally make blind buys (I got stung with 'Slither'), I have purchased "Kung Fu Panda", "Bolt" (Loved 'em both), and now "Up" (on pre-order, anyway) based on your reviews. We will see if Up continues the trend.... Togther with "Star Trek" (another blind buy... I have my doubts that it is true 'Trek', but I am hoping for a great action movie) this is turning out to be one expensive month (care to send some of those commissions my way...?)

Peace... Vader

Guys,I have not seen this movie...but im thinking about blind buying it ,but before I do I want to tell you that I loved Toy Story 1&2,A Bugs Life,Finding Nemo, and Monster's Inc.

But I never cared for Cars,The Incredibles,Wall-E,Bolt.

Is UP more like the newer movies or their older ones?

The newer ones are lacking something,Im not sure what it is........but they dont feel like the older movies!

Based upon the movies you mentioned as liking versus not liking, I think you may enjoy it. It's less "action" oriented and more personality driven IMO.

I've been a fan of Forrest Gump.....in no small part because my son, who was a pre-teen when it first came out, absolutely loved the film. I always worried that some of the story may have been a bit much for him (relationship between Jenny, Forrest being chief among them). But, I was wrong.

While some don't care for Tom Hanks in this movie, I thought it was the strongest performance he's ever done (which is saying something, since he's amassed many accolades in other films). The other actors are all at top form here, too (particularly Gary Sinise and Sally Field). We all know the story. So, either you like it, or you don't.

Having gone from the DVD to the BD, the BD is a very worthwhile upgrade, if you're a fan.

Music so high you can't get over it....music so low you can't get under it!

Finally, someone after my own heart. Unfortunately the name "Disney" alone has more power alone than anything. People call Pixar films Disney films all the time, and I want to spit in their face, but I keep that in my head.

Disney almost killed Pixar before they finished Toy Story, stabbed them in the back constantly, and questioned them every step of the way. I wish they hadn't of signed a merger with them, but they had already signed a deal with the devil, and they wanted their characters and rights back.

I also agree with this. I just hope that Disney keep it's nose out of Pixar, and Marvel as well. They can collect the royalties, but leave them alone to do what they know how to do best, without "disney-fying the characters and stories.

Well, with Lasseter heading up Disney animation, I don't think you have anything to fear. The quality of all Disney animated titles have gone up since he came on board.

Because of that, I am very hopeful, at least for animation. IMO, Bolt was Pixar quality, just without the Pixar name... Now, if they would just keep their syruppy-sweet nose out of Marvel (at least until "The Avengers" is finished), I'm golden...

Peace... Vader

I think those are different departments, so you should be safe there. One thing Disney has is a "quality" reputation, unlike some other movie studios, so there's hope

Put my order in a few seconds ago. I was "warned" about the first 15 minutes of this film when I went to see it in the theater. I thought I was ready. But there I was chanting in my head... "I am a man, I will not cry!" ^_^

Can't get over the good deals to be had already this season. Up + Monster's Inc. + Snow White @ Amazon for only $42. And those all come with a bonus DVD copy! (. And we were whining about the prices just a few months ago. ^_^)

So yeah, mailman don't fail me now!

I'm curious about the aspect ratio of this film which I noticed was in 1.78:1. Was this the theatrical aspect ratio or the IMAX aspect ratio? The other Pixar blu ray movies were always 2.35:1 to 2.40:1.

We are watching it now (stopped for an important phone call). All I can say is WOW on everything about this movie! And since we didn't see it in the theater our daughter had us watch "Partly Cloudy" first! That was awesome as well. Great review Ralph!

No doubting the BD quality but this film just doesn't do it for me personally even after a second go with it now via rental after my earlier theater encounter when it was released. I really didn't think my opinion of it would change.

If you like the movie though, run don't walk!
