I must get this movies now that I finally have a blue ray player. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.

+1. My firmware was updated last week (Panny BD65) to v1.6 but this was a major disappointment comparing to recent 480p DVD release of Battleships or Avengers. Even on high lamp did not help.

One of the few films that I triple-dipped but already gave away both the VHS and the DVD. Should have taken a look at Ralph's review before I wasted on this one.

Yes and dull. The avengers DVD at 480p was better.

I have LOTM on regular DVD. I played it last night on the blu ray player but I have no idea if anything was actually upconverted or not. How can you tell?

To me, this movie has a lot in common with The Hobbit. Both are filmed spectacularly, and both feature a lot of running and chasing, then some killing, and then more running and chasing and killing. Beautifully executed, I'll give them that.
