This link lists the differences between the various Tron Legacy sets.

This link does the same for the original Tron.

Saw Tron:Legacy via IMAX 3D with my 5 year old and 8 year old.
The sheer audio-visual assault was enough to keep them absolutely glued down and silent in their seats for the entire show--which is significant.
For my part, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I find easy enjoyment when my expectations are kept under control and the movie doesn't overreach its own bounds.
Although Tron: Legacy is light on character development and depth and could have benefited from better attention to these, the movie still worked for me.

Blu-ray on order.

To 3D, or not to 3D: that is the question.

I'm on the fence now but I guess it won't kill me for another $5.

If anyone is interested they have a limited edition and numbered Kevin Flynn mini bust of him in the attire that he wore in the Original TRON for 2900 points. It's worth a look.

I'm surprised at just how many people enjoyed the film and how critics were criticizing it so much. I personally loved the film and had the 5 Disc on order since they announced it. I also appreciate the fact that they are keeping the aspect ratio to what the director intended. It means more picture on my Kuro! I loved the way the only did the world of TRON in 3D and left the real world in 2D. iIt looked right and gave that much more to the movie itself. I can't wait to get it!

Thanks for the great review Ralph. It made my day!

I found this movie to be a bit of a let down, and the chemistry factor between the actors was one of those things that bogged it down. The pacing wasn't good either, with incredibly slow moments of exposition at the weirdest times. And Flynns son....his acting was on par with Jake Lloyd from the Phantom Menace. Here's hoping the sequel will address these glaring issues.

I'd read a great many reviews about how bad Garrett Hedlund's acting was before going in and checking it out for myself, and I feel that he did a perfectly fine job with the character. At times he even seems to channel a bit of Kevin Flynn himself in his inflection and the way his voice sounds, though I don't know how intentional -if at all- that was. Was LEGACY a perfect film? No. Was it the train wreck that the critics said it was? Not by a long shot.

Agreed - this was a far beter movie than I walked into expecting - although geek nostalgia for the 1st is what finally got me to the local multiplex during it's last week or so locally.

Thought Hedlund was fine - I think the Jake Lloyd comparision is harsh....maybe a glimmer or 2 of Hayden Christensen (if you wanna toss around SW prequel references), but still a serviceable performance.

One does not go into this film for character development - they go for the eye candy (both CG FX & Olivia Wilde!) and TRON-tastic action. LEGACY delivered on both counts, IMO. Will be getting the 2D BD this week (although I wish those of us watching HD in just 2 dimensions had access to a Digitial Copy, too).

I have the OOP DVD of the 1st film - while I'm sure the BD remaster is great - I can live with "old school" TRON on the old school format for now.

Money does not buy happiness. It can, however, buy you a giant boat that you can pull up alongside happiness. - David Lee Roth

Wow I was blown away with the new "Tron Legacy" Blu Ray soundtrack, DTS HD MA 7.1. Using my 95's 7.1 analog RCA outs.

The 2D PQ is excellent, but its just eye candy for a outstanding 7.1 soundtrack. I have never been sucked into a soundtrack like this one, I will be viewing this BD more than once just to see if I can keep my mind on the story rather than the soundtrack.

This soundtrack will tell you how good your LFE channel SW and speakers really are along with you room acoustics, and by all means crank up the volume, and no DRC.

As always, thanks for an insightful review, Ralph ..

The BD rental is in the truck for tonight .. I was not much of a fan of the original either .. however, the audio / video workout Legacy apparently provides is worth the price of admission ..

Just finished watching the 2D disc. One word: WOW! An absolutely stunning video presentation. Unbelievable audio. I loved the soundtrack. Obviously not the best story but I enjoyed it.

I will try to watch the 3D version this evening or tomorrow. Needless to say, I can't wait.

Yes it does. I was pleasantly surprised to see that when we went to pick it up at midnight. I thought the 5 Disc cover was already cool. The lenticular is icing on the cake. That and with the double your points today at DisneyMovieRewards.com for TRON Legacy, besides the Identity Disc case, it's the only one that includes the Original TRON rewards points too! It's nice when buying things in one package gives your more benefits.

Great review.. Spot on.

The Tron Legacy 5-Disc set is a must buy! It's the next big reference quality disc set to hit since T2.. Simply a great movie, and even greater at showing off your home theater system. I was Lucky enough to obtain the limited gift set that has the light up identity disc.. The kids get a real kick out of it!

I purchased mine at Best Buy. It's on sale this week for a really great price. They are pretty much sold out everywhere for this special edition identity disc gift set. The SKU number is 2244157. Just enter that number in at Best Buy's online website. If you find one I recommend buying it. It is different set from the regular five disc only one being reviewed here (only that it contains a light up identity disc that holds all five disc). The blue light stays on as long as you like. It doesn't time out. Nicely done. Good quality, and comes with a stand.

I just watching the 3D version last night. I noticed only two scenes with ghosting and they were short lived. Mirror scene and end.

I really enjoyed this movie the second time. I guess my expectations were lowered since i knew what was going to happen. Awesome special effects and sound is incredible! Glad to see Disney pumping out 7.1 sound tracks. This deserved it

Great review as always Ralph. I watched both the original and Legacy last night and all i can say is WOW. The audio and visuals on Legacy is amazing. It is crazy what we can do graphics wise in a movie today (especially making Bridges younger). I did overall like Legacy's story better than the original, it felt like I was more involved with the characters. Legacy is easily one of my favorite audio tracks this year, my sub was active the entire movie.

Anyone get speaker pops throughout the DTS Master track? You didn't hear them when the action was going but when things got going I could hear little pops all through the movie.

I sprung for the BD and 3D BD + Digital copy 4 disk set. Even though we do not have 3D, I will use it as a test demo disk should the time ever come where we decide to move to 3D. As for the DVD... what can I say.

We watched the 2D Bluray disk tonight on our SONY VPL-VW60 projector and 100 inch STEWART Firehawk SST screen and it was nothing short of stunning and visually captivating. The audio was also outstanding. Disney and everyone involved are to be commended for sparing no expense and pulling out all of the stops in order to provide us with a gorgeous, reference quality audio video experience.

Compared the 3D BD with the 2D disc (Tron: Legacy) and as I expected the PQ is hugely better on the 2D version. Better color, contrast and far more detail. It's too bad that 3D is such a flawed format. It looks acceptable in 3D, but nothing like it does in 2D.
