I jumped through a few scenes today!!! This movie had such a great plot which why I wanted it for my rotation for the family viewing. The video was good but did not blow me away like Monsters Inc did for example but the audio was excellent in particular the LFE dug deep a few times example the quick interior views from inside kronos and when bob tosses the sky car on bad guys. I am sure there are more scenes that can be mentioned but we will find those out tomorrow for Monday movie night lol!!!

Watched this again last night.
There are so many little things about this film that make it so great.
The scene where Helen gets caught in the doors is as good as anything I've ever seen.
Plus it gets better as it progresses.
It's tempting to want a sequel but that is a treacherous undertaking.
Although there were 3 Toy Story films, the sequels were......
I guess there is going to be a prequel to Monsters Inc.

I can't say for sure but this strikes me as the only Pixar where characters are killed on screen. Not die, but killed.
Maybe Nemo...

I cannot understand why people are disappointed because The Incredibles doesn't look like some other Pixar film.

I guess I might be disappointed in Lion King because it doesn't look like Snow White.

It ain't ignorance causes so much trouble; it's folks knowing so much that ain't so

My copy triggered the "ES Matrix" mode with the DTS-HDM track. Ralph, could you confirm that that is the case and the labeling on the insert has omitted it?

It's labeled as ES in the disc menus. All Pixar titles use ES encoding, labeled or not.

No kidding. I thought the launch sequence was going to break something.

Got this Blu-Ray on Friday and my GF and I watched it that night.....WOW, even she commented on how good it sounds. I love the scene where dash was running through the forest and cave. My surround speakers lit up. My GF jumped when dash was running in the cave and ran up the wall, over and back to the left side....she said it felt like he ran passed her. The LF were beautiful!

Another demo disc to add to the list

This is the first BD (apparent) incompatibility I've encountered.

Title UPC: 7 86936 80700 4
Title SKU: 105504
The BD+DVD+DC 4-platter combo

Player: Samsung BD-P1590
Version: BEv2.16+110310A_XAA (current as of 2011-04-24)

Main title BD Disc 1 plays fine.

Bonus BD Disc 2 spins up, displays Disney castle flash, goes
to black screen, with "PLAY" on the BD drive, nothing further.
Switched off BD Live, tried again, same behavior.
This disc 2 plays perfectly on a neighbor's PS3.

Plan: wait for new firmware, I suppose.
______
The DVDs I haven't tested.
______
Update 2011-10-23:
The player updated itself this week, to firmware rev:
BEv2.18_110825A_XAA
and the Incredibles Bonus BD now plays.

Great film, no doubt.

No real discernible difference between the standard DVD and Blu-ray. Sounded great, but about the same authority/fidelity as the standard DVD DD soundtrack. AQ and VQ were the same as the standard DVD.

Don't regret buying the BD version, but nothing salient to speak of regarding the BD version vs. SD version.

Disappointed with your screen?
My copy is in the mail, can't wait. Now Finding Nemo needs to come out and I will have every Pixar and Dreamworks films that I like.

I like a good crisp picture, but nothing gets me more than a good surround sound presentation.

Is there a list that shows what Blu Rays have the best use of the rear speakers. I'm aware of the war movies, but what about anything else. Any scary movies that have outstanding surround presentation?

The Echo, [REC], Quarantine, Orphanage, American Haunting, etc.. to name a few. Listen to the opening scene in The Echo at or near reference volume. You'll thank me later.

I'm not a big fan of the horror genre, but I thought "Drag Me to Hell" was quite good in this regard.

If you can't tell the difference then obviously your username is an apt description of your home theater equipment.

Buy an anamorphic lens and you won't have that problem.

There are some BD's that deserve a 100+ and this is one of them.

Great review Ralph.

Because the aspect ratio (width-to-height) isn't the same as your TV.

The only time a movie doesn't have black bars is when its aspect ratio happens to match that of your TV exactly. This very rarely happens.

Excellent writeup and explanation here.

I know I'm a bit late here, but I finally got a chance to pick up this BD and watch it. I have to say Ralph's review is 100% correct, IMO.

Video and sound on this BD release are absolutely stunning! Based on Ralph's review I had high expectations and was not disappointed in the least. Actually, it looked and sounded even better than I imagined it would!

Thanks for the great reviews, Ralph.
