Image Entertainment Presents:
B.B. King: Live, Megadeth: That One Night: Live in Buenos Aires & Foreigner: Live

B.B. King: Live
The man needs no introduction. Truly the reigning king of blues, over the last 60 years B.B. King has developed one of the world's most identifiable guitar styles and has influenced thousands of musicians. Known for integrating precise and complex string bends with left hand vibrato, King has a uniquely regal and velvety tone making every note count.

Everyday I Have the Blues, See That My Grave Is Kept Clean , How Many More Years, Downhearted, I Need You So, I Got Some Help I Don’t Need, Thrill is Gone, Nobody Loves Me But My Mother, Let the Good Times Roll, Thrill is Gone, When The Saints Go Marching In, Key to the Highway.

Quick Specs:
Run Time: 54 mins, Video Format: 1080i, Audio Format: DTS HD Master Audio 5.1, Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1, Region: Free

Quick Thoughts:
I enjoyed this show but felt a bit sad by it all. B. B. is not what he used to be, and of course age is the main factor. I am not saying its bad, because sub-par B.B. is better than most could ever be. With his trademark Gibson “Lucille” settled on his lap, B.B runs (well sits) through some of his songs as well as a few blues standards. The best parts of this short show is his in-between song banter and interplay with his three special guests. Joining him are Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora, Actor Terrence Howard and Beyonce's sister, singer Solange. I did get a kick out of it when B.B. kept calling Richie Sambora, Rick, but it was also a sad sign. This was watchable because of the legend, and this release has a great pedigree with a nice A/V presentation, but this isn't the best representation of B.B. King, the king of blues.

This show is from the PBS Sound Stage series, filmed in Digital HD and for a 1080i release this sure looked great. Deep blacks, colors were nice and vivid and no real artifacts to speak of. The audio was nothing mind-blowing, but it did sound good. As a 5.1 mix, it seemed a bit narrow, with B.B.'s horn section being the loudest thing the mix. Sonically things sounded great, bass was low and tight and B.B.'s guitar tone cut through as did his vocals. There were times where things got a little muddy, like when Richie Sambora got swallowed in the mix when he first joins the jam. Even though well above average, I just felt the mix needed a bit more attention.

Filmed live at Obras Stadium, Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 9, 2005! Megadeth is one of the most commercially successful heavy metal bands, selling more than 20 million albums worldwide, including the Grammy nominated multi-platinum Countdown to Extinction. In the U.S. alone, Megadeth have received four platinum records, six gold records, and seven Grammy nominations for Best Metal Performance.

Set List:
Blackmail the Universe, Set the World Afire, Wake Up Dead, In My Darkest Hour, She Wolf, Reckoning Day, A Tout Le Monde, Hangar 18, I'll Be There, Tornado of Souls, Trust, Something That I'm Not, Kick the Chair, Coming Home, Symphony of Destruction, Peace Sells and Symphony of Destruction (Alternate Version).

Quick Specs:
Run Time: 105 mins, Video Format: 1080i, Audio Format: DTS HD Master Audio 5.1, Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1, Region: Free

Quick Thoughts:
For full disclosure I am not a Megadeath fan, and Dave Mustaine's voice really annoys me. However, I went into this with an open mind hoping to gain a new perspective. I watched "Symphony Of Destruction" and "Peace Sells" (Megadeth's most known songs) because after the first song of the set I was too disappointed with this releases quality to watch the whole concert. This release is for the deepest fans only. The video quality is worse than an up-converted DVD and the audio is missing the concussion you would expect to feel with a chugging heavy metal band. There is no deep bass as it sounds super sounds, missing dynamics. I gave it a shot, but just couldn't do the whole thing.

attachment.php?attachmentid=217751&d=1311002552Foreigner: Live
Universally hailed as one of the most popular rock acts throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, Foreigner still puts on an absolutely thrilling and sensational show thirty years later. Singer Kelly Hansen and lead guitarist Mick Jones are a wicked combination on songs like Hot Blooded and Double Vision. Foreigner’s showmanship is outstanding and this sensational concert is packed with smash hits like Cold As Ice, Juke Box Hero and Urgent, as well as the newest single Too Late.

Set List:
Night Life, Head Games, Cold As Ice, Waiting For A Girl Like You, Too Late, Say You Will, Long Long Way From Home, Double Vision, Blue Morning, Blue Day, Dirty White Boy, Starrider, Feels Like the First Time, Urgent, Juke Box Hero, I Want to Know What Love Is, Hot Blooded

Quick Specs:
Run Time: 105 mins, Video Format: 1080i, Audio Format: DTS HD Master Audio 5.1, Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1, Region: Free

Quick Thoughts:
For you purists out there, Foreigners line-up only has one original member, Mick Jones. They have had a revolving door of musicians since the mid-eighties. Yes this is quite different than the bands heyday (with a different vocalist, sorry no Lou Gramm here---though Kelley Hanson does sound great), but I suspect Foreigner fans will enjoy this release with its great performance and massive amount of hit songs.

This is also from the PBS Sound Stage series. Foreigners DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 track hit right in the chest, the way a Rock n' Roll show should. There was always separation between the instrumentation. Jason Bonham's (John Bonham of Led Zeppelin's son) kick drum combined with the bass guitar dug low and the high end was crisp. That crispness was almost too much as I found it to get grating on a few cymbal hits and even some audience clapping. The rears were a echo of the front sound-stage, and had more of that fatiguing high-end. Once I switched to the LPCM 2.0 I was treated to more natural sound, albeit less spacious, but closer to what we are used to. The 1080i video presentation had inky blacks and a visually appealing color palette, as well as great definition. I didn't find any video noise or other detrimental issues. This is the same show as "Sound Stage:Foreigner" Blu-ray from 2008, with a few additional songs.

*note: these are 3 separate releases

Isn't this BB King release just a re-issue of a previous concert?

I noted Foreigner was, but didn't see the Sound Stage BB King as being released. Please advise if it was!

Perhaps you can compare the song list and specifics.

Used to love Megadeth, but the last album or two lost me. I can understand people not liking Dave's vocals, but I enjoyed them. Too bad it sounds like a mediocre set

The best BB King concert DVDs out their is B.B. King: Live at Montreux 1993 Bluray. The audio/video and camera work are all excellent and the setlist if great and BB plays standing up for most of the show.

I've seen King in concert 7 times, beginning in the early 1970's and last in 2009 .. yes, he's not what he used to be, but just being in the same room with him is very cool .. legendary may be overused, but not in this case ..

I've worked on two of his guitars and spent some time with him backstage as well .. you'd be surprised the young ladies that still bubble over him in the dressing room ..

King is a gentleman, a family man and gracious as hell .. he puts on no airs and is as down to earth as back when he was known as "Blues Boy" ..

I was sitting with BB when a couple young ladies were escorted into the dressing room by security .. after the obligatory autograph and photo, one of them spotted the deli tray on the table and asked if she could have some cheese (I'm not kidding here) .. BB looked at her and said "Sure, help yourself" .. she downed a cube and security motioned it was time to split .. we heard her say walking out the door "I ate BB Kings cheese .. "

King and I looked at each other and no two men could have ever laughed any harder .. we definitely busted a gut ..

: Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
