"Some Games Have No Winners"

Film Synopsis:

Four masked avengers find themselves stripped of their powers by a cruel arch-nemesis they defeated years earlier … or so they thought. When the sinister mastermind puts the heroes through a series of brutal challenges that are virtually impossible to overcome, they must battle the clock – and even each other – in a race to stop a deadly countdown that could mean total destruction.

My Take:

I see a lot of crap movies for you guys, and I don't mind it, as I get to see flicks I normally wouldn't. I see all the standard blockbusters regardless, so this can be a nice way to experiment. Sometimes I am treated to a undiscovered gem, and other times it's just a waste of time. This one is a first for me, as my tolerance level is pretty high, but All Superheroes Must Die made my life hurt. I just don't get how it was even released, filmed or considered worth doing.

The above synopsis is more than plenty, as that's all the story there is. There is NO character development, there is NO back-story, there is NO rhyme or reason for what is happening besides the fact that Superheroes and Arch-Nemesis's (say that 5 times fast) should be in some sort of fight. That should be reason enough to plop these guys in this situation and play it out, right? We don't need a real script or story, we don't need cool costumes or even an attempt that took more than just driving down to iParty. This is abysmal, and its too bad they might pull in a few purchases or rentals based on a slightly intriguing title and cover art, and might cash in a wee bit on the Super-Hero craze. The funny thing is, this will be profitable and possibly (disturbingly so) considered a success, as its budget is reported as only 20k.

All Superheroes Must Die comes to Blu-ray disc from Image Entertainment featuring 1080p AVC encoded video that has an average bitrate of 25.8 mbps DTS-HD MA 5.1 lossless surround sound that has a average bitrate of 3.8 mbps.

Lets pretend you should even care about how his one looks and sounds. All Superheroes Must Die has a decent look to it, with vivid but never over-saturated colors that add pop to the sharp and detailed HD image. Black Levels are stable, but do crush at times and I did notice some aliasing and non resolved gradients. All in all it is a pleasing transfer, just limited by what i assume to be the budget. Audio is in the same boat, it's OK, but has no wow factor, with less than impressive dynamics and LFE. I had to crank up the volume to hear softer spoken dialogue and surrounds were not effective in the least.

Bonus Features:

  • None Included

Final Thoughts:

Skip, pass, run, your soul. This one is just plain bad, and I didn't even get into the acting in "My Take" above. No extras (as if they had time to compile any during shooting, they were to busy working on the intricacies of story structure...), and lackluster A/V round this one off. My BD player thanked me then I took the disk out...

Just testing!

I wanted to see if whomever gave it a go hated it more than I did!

Actually the other day I happened to walk by a Red Box machine, and I just happened to look right at this title in the machine. I chuckled a bit when I saw it due to having read your review of it Lee. biggrin.gif
