Well, I have no idea what way you're refering to. I just know that the dark scenes were dark but yet I had no trouble clearly making out everything in a given frame.

How they shot and edited the scenes, I don't have a clue as my knowledge of video is very limited at best.

Bigelow states on one of the featurettes her intention to recreate the moonless night. ZERO DARK THIRTY means thirty minutes after midnight...when it's dark enough for no one to see them. So I'd say it was intentional.

They are FREAKING LOUD!! Expecially one crashing in your yard, even if you were in a bunker (which they are not) it's impossible everyone doesn't hear a aircraft crash in your own yard. One of the guys I went to the movie with is in the military and even he just had to laugh. It's was still a very interesting movie but that ruined it for me.

I just finished watching the film for the first time and I had read this prior to viewing and so I was looking for your "no one wakes up" comment. There was no suggestion that the residents of the house were sleeping. Hiding in the house waiting for the breach to happen yes, but the occupants sleeping through the helo crash wasn't even suggested in the movie confused.gif.

In any case I like the movie much more than I thought I would, I didn't notice the films length and felt the story justified that level of detail. The night scenes were appropriately dark and the night vision perspective was very effective in putting you there, Great picture, sound, good acting, writing and editing.

More good film making by Ms Bigelow and another good review by Ralph. I'm buying this one. cool.gif

Hi, before I buy/rent Argo, what did you think of the movie? Did you see it on blu-ray and how was the quality?

Maya is likely a composite of several female analysts in the Bin Laden Unit.

A good starting point on this topic is to read "Manhunt" by Peter Bergen:

The book "No Easy Day" and the recent Esquire article with the SEAL that shot OBL made it sound like it was one woman, though they don't name her.

Watched this tonight.
It requires patience and concentration that most current films do not.
As far as Maya and the enhanced interrogation scenes, her reaction seemed totally normal to me, who wants to witness it regardless of whether you agree with it or not.
And yes, torture\good cop bad cop\enhanced interrogation\stressing a detainee, whatever you want to call it had been proven to be ineffective, that's why no one has used it for 5,000 years.

The Academy gave Cameron the finger and Bigelow the Oscar a few years back in one of the few real moments in recent history.
The interrogation scenes alone while in context and a small part of the story plus the voters lack of intelligence made that a no starter.
Forget the fact the nominated films were some of the lamest in history.

It ain't ignorance causes so much trouble; it's folks knowing so much that ain't so

This is 100% My honest opinion.

Torture is like Gun Laws. The media/news whatever you want to call it will only report the stuff that makes it look bad.

And now I shall not speak about this subject again!

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...

Greetings,

Actually I think the quoted response was directly related to a question about the A/V quality of Argo, not ZDT. Thanks for chiming in though...wink.gif

I bought this after Ralph's review, but I am a little upset frown.gif
It actually made my guest get up and head back down where the wine was at. I never seen my guests ever do that. Overall, this movie is nothing but average and I to give it a 77 out of 100.

It was a pretty darn boring movie

It's only "boring" if you expected some Hollywood action shoot 'em up. I knew what I was getting into when I rented it. ZDT is definitely a docudrama. Much of the interest lies in the evidence gathering, though for a movie like that, I enjoyed All The President's Men even more.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

I agree this flick requires some investment for the viewer. Patience and careful attention for the first hour which pays off in the end.

Overall, it was a bit dull for my tastes, too, but I'm going to watch it again later tonight and see if it's more pleasing the second time around. I did like it after the first viewing, but the story itself simply didn't come off as especially intriguing or intense, although Chastain was quite good at portraying her character, as usual. Ralph noted in the "My Take" section of his review that he liked it the first time he saw it, but loved it the second time, so with any luck I too will feel that way by the end of the night.

You make it sound like Ralph took your money. I'd guess his review isn't the only reason you bought this movie and if it was that's your fault for not doing more research.

Ralph,
Once again an absolutely superior PQ presentation; Depth, detail, darks, shadow details, colors and clarity are all there on this one.

As I have said, what a great phase right now as bluray and 3D is really knock'n them outta the park with transfers such as SKYFALL, Zero Dark Thirty and the Hobbit. Wow!

Thank you for your consistent and reliable efforts.

Regarding some comments about the story; a little bit of geo-political, patriotic appreciation and worldliness will assist in appreciating this excellent account of a process that I am emotionally vested in after witnessing a modern era Pearl Harbor just a few hundred miles away. This is an excellent addition to the modern war movie library at a minimum. (wft)...sorry

Love for all things Hi-def...Losing count; 200 plus bluray, 500 plus dvd, 30 plus HDdvd and a rapidly growing 50 plus in the cloud.
