You are quite correct, a clone, and very much human. Someone called her an android in a previous comment, my mistake to repeat it as such!

I'm quite aware of that. But you made the comment "the whole thing reminds me of V for Vendetta - pseudo intellectual stuff."

Greetings Ralph smile.gif

I did a blind buy on this one and loved it from the get go! It had that something about it that had me hooked from the outset and was able to keep me engaged through out by the end I came away mighty impressed, just a brilliant piece of film making and not much more I can say wink.gif

I think CLOUD ATLAS will join BLADERUNNER and a few other films that go from "failure" (i.e. initial release) to classic.

After watching the film for the second time I realized the other connection to Sonmi 451. The worker who murdered the consumer showed her a video of the publisher who was locked up in the nursing home. She is inspired by his phrase "I will not be subjected to criminal abuse". It is later explained when Sonmi watches the movie about his life in the apartment.

Just finished watching Cloud Atlas for the first time and loved it! Can't wait to watch again tomorrow, and my wife will likely be watching with me on that viewing, so we'll see what she thinks of it. This deserves an easy 8.5 out of 10 score from my perspective.

Watched the movie again thinking my wife would like it, but she didn't get into it the way I did. However, she was quite tired when we sat down to watch it, so she ended up yawning a lot, and not paying attention to the level this film requires. While discussing the movie the next day, she showed more interest and admitted to not giving it fair viewing because of her lack of attention. We might do it again later, but it's still a darned good movie in my opinion.

Just watched it. Can't say exactly how I feel about this one. Kinda hard to take it all in on one viewing.

The needs to be watched several more times before I pass judgment.

Got to give it,or the book, credit for originality. Can't think of another movie quite like this

Intriguing is the word I would use.

I'm 3/4 of the way through the book - all that's left is Part 2 of Luisa Rey, Robert Frobischer, and Adam Ewing. As noted here or in the Blu-ray software thread, in the book you read the first halves of each of the six stories, and then finish them by reading the second halves in reverse order.

The Wachowskis seem to have added more connections between the characters from story to story than were in the book, and that's not a bad thing.

Sloosha's Crossin' an' Ev'rythin' After had some major changes in the movie, as did An Orison of Sonmi~451, but I think the changes worked, esp. re: speeding up the pace of the Sonmi story, though it changed the twist in the story and left out the part re: the millions of Ascended Fabricants, I believe.

The Ghastly Ordeal of Timothy Cavendish had less major changes in the movie than these.

Having read only the first halves of the following, I don't recall many significant changes in the movie:
The Pacific Journal of Adam Ewing
Letters from Zedelghem
Half-Lives: The First Luisa Rey Mystery

Many have said that Cloud Atlas was an unfilmable novel, but based on what I've read so far, I think the Wachowskis did a great job.

Edit: Just finished the second part of Half-Lives: The First Luisa Rey Mystery. For this story the movie overall follows the book, but also makes some significant changes, more than were done with the Timothy Cavendish story.

Edit2: Just finished the second part of Letters from Zedelghem. The movie cuts out some characters, but is otherwise fairly close to the book, though in the movie I don't recall any mention that Vyvyan Ayrs had syphilis.

Edit3: Finished the book. The Adam Ewing story sticks fairly close to the book, but there are some significant changes as well, which I liked.

My wife and I really enjoyed the movie - we left the first viewing saying we HAVE to see it again. I got to see it a second time in a less than ideal enviromment but enjoyed it again. In the first viewing, it took me about half the film to realize that the same actors were being used over and over (call me dense, but some of the makeup was really good... now Tom Hanks was easy to spot and a couple of the others in less covering constume, however).

I've honestly thought about different parts of the movie for the past week or so... it's not for everyone but I liked it very, very much!

I just finished this movie and I have to say I'm floored at how amazing it was. It reminded me of of 2001: A Space Odyssey, in as much as it's going to take multiple viewings to really understand the nuance of it, there's some left up to the viewer, I had no idea what was going on for the first half, and I was mesmerized the entire time. In terms of the audio and visual, it was stunning; but the plot is what had me hooked. Every time I was really getting into a story and began to forget about another story, it would break to the exact story I had forgotten about. It kept the tension high and completely engrossing. When you add in the aspects of sci-fi, action, comedy, drama, romance, crime, racial tension, and everything else, it literally has everything.

This movie has definitely moved into my top 5 of all time.

I missed this movie, via HBO and DVR watched it just now.......

I was mesmerized and immersed fully in the movie.

It reminds me of 1981, college, and watching Apocalypse Now for the 1st time at my college for $1.
My brain has to process much.....I'll post my thoughts later.....

Disclosure - I wrote this w/o reading any post here....

I've had this movie for about a month on Blu Ray from Netflix waiting for a time I could commit about 3 hours of my full attention. I was not disappointed!! This movie was excellent, and was a great workout for the brain. It was so refreshing to see a story that was unique and atypical. I'll be thinking about/processing this one for a while.

Ditto. Finally saw this and really enjoyed it. Could not bare to watch a popcorn flick after it. Sadly I did and saw Anchorman 2 and had the worse cinema experience ever lol

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...

Greetings,

I’m going to give this one a try. The Wachowski brothers done good with the Matrix trilogy, so Cloud Atlas must be eye-popping.

Good film, you might have to watch it twice

This is one of my wife's favorite movies ( me too ). I think I've watched it 6 times with various friends. Great picture and soundtrack too. Stunning on my Lumis on a 2.35:1 screen with 11.2 surround sound. I love the " what we do echo's through Eternity " theme. Can't wait to watch it again with some friends that haven't seen it.

Yep, I've watched this one two or three times now and enjoyed it more with each viewing, but still need to watch it again with captions turned on because bits of the language dialect continue to get by me. Perhaps this weekend...
