"You've Never Seen Activity Like This."

Film Synopsis:

A couple begin to experience some unusual activity after bringing their lost nieces and nephew home. With the help of home-surveillance cameras, they learn they're being stalked by a nefarious demon.

My Take:

How the mighty have fallen. From the writers of comedy classics like The Kentucky Fried Movie, Airplane, Police Squad, Bachelor Party and Police Academy comes this complete junk. It had a few laughs, but that was mostly the films intro that was a spoof of Paranormal Activity with Charlie Sheen and Lindsey Lohan. The scene is a self-deprecating one where the two are in bed mocking their very public persona's and legal issues.

But to critique these films is just ridiculous, its not about plot as its a spoof on the latest most popular horror flicks. In this case a mix-up of Mama, Paranormal Activity(s), Black Swan and even Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Really all that matters is one thing-- Was it funny? Not really. I laughed a few times but found myself bored most of the time thinking about the next movie I was throwing in; a double feature of Psycho II and III which I liked more than expected (review soon). Oh wait sorry, this is a review of Scary Movie 5...

I did dig the first two Scary Movie movies when the Wayans Brothers were at the helm and Anna Faris was the star. But this just had no real sense of humor, no comedic timing, no real soul at all. Aimed at 12 year olds this might work, but for me it was a real waste and a total letdown especially considering I was ready, willing and open for some damn laughs!!! boo!

Parental Guide:

Crude and sexual content throughout, language, some drug material, partial nudity, comic violence and gore

Scary Movie 5comes to Blu-ray from Anchor Bay featuring 1080p AVC encoded video that has an average bitrate of 21.4 mbps and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound that has an average bitrate of 3.3mbps

If you're still with me, at least Scary Movie 5 looked and sounded good. But a polished turd still a turd be. Generally a looker, colors are natural with flesh-tones seemingly accurate to the lighting. Colors can pop, and black levels strong, but this is far from the best out there. Fine details range from the extreme to moments of softness, but over-all this is a pretty High Definition encode. The audio trumps the video with some deep, punch and effective low end, nicely mixed surrounds and a front sound-stage that never misses a beat. Its nothing you will revisit for the sound, but if you are trapped in a room with toothpicks under your eyes at least your ears will be OK.

Bonus Features:

  • (HD) Deleted and Extended Scenes

  • UV Digital Copy

  • DVD Copy

Final Thoughts:

Scary Movie 5. Do.Not.Bother. Decent A/V round off this non-funny comedy. I guess when an idea is stale it doesn't matter, especially when it made over 12 million domestically before home video. I guess we will be seeing Scary Movie 6 soon enough. Hey guys Ashley Tisdale needed a job, so at least this has its place...

I didn't like this movie. I quit after 20 minutes into it.

It is just plain silly.

I remember the movie was scary and don't know if it was real or fake.

I don't know what happened now.

It was horrible, and I like the franchise.

The first 10 minutes of it was funny. I like Sheen and Linsey on it. Then Snoop Dog and I don't know who that is.

The rest just falls apart and plain silly.

Can we get the Wayne brothers and Anna Faris back?

The Scary Movie franchise hasn't been fun since 1 and 2. I watched 3 and refused to watch 4 and 5. It should end...but it won't.

The opening segment was somewhat decent, but after that it was not fun or funny. This movie was just a train wreck IMO. Not even worth a rental from my perspective.
