Glad i bought this blind based on Ralph's review, thanks.

It was scary fun to be sure. Glad you enjoyed it.. smile.gif

I'd like to comment on other stuff but I don't know how to create a spoiler tag when using BlackBerry (the browser doesn't give me that option and I can't remember the html tag for it)

I can see where it feels forced. Spoiler tag is [ spoiler ] then closed out by [ / spoiler ] no spaces.

^^^ If you have somewhere to rent it from, go pick it up, if you don't enjoy the movie itself, the sound alone will keep you entertained.

Greetings Ralph smile.gif

This was definite must have for the well rounded collection . I do have to admit while it wasn't the scariest movie I've seen , it didn't disappoint by a long shot! loved the video presentation and I like your description of the dialog as it was indeed more than just lucid but that pinpoint clarity did add a great clarity to the presentation. I must add I felt the bass on this deserves some special accolades for just flat out being present like a sentinel in room ready for duty when called upon to give the impression your house is ready to cave wink.gif

This BD doesn't disappoint and as a fan of these movies, James Wan hit a home run. A/V was on point and I liked how the LFE was used in this movie.

Thanks Ralph for the nice review.

I am one of those that does not normally watch Horror movies, but not for the reasons you mention.
I do like a horror movie if it has the anxiety, suspense and consternation. In my opinion a lot of the horror movies
simple do not have that. They will have a some slashing, screaming and the unavoidable surprise boo, but not enough
story to give you that psychological scare that I enjoy in a horror movie.

I enjoyed The Shinning, Poltergeist, The Exorcist, The Sixth Sense, Alien, The Silence of the Lamb.. and I always enjoy
watching a few scary ones during Halloween. Just added The Conjuring to my list based on your review!

Anxiety? Suspense? Consternation? This is the movie you've been waiting for! wink.gif

Do not expect slashing, do expect some screaming, but, most interestingly, the boos are not the surprise type, it's rather the other way around: you're already expecting them and it's just so much for the better! eek.gif Again, sounds like right up your alley, don't it?

And, according to that list of movies you've enjoyed, this one's a no-brainer... I say go for it, Oz! Happy Halloween! cool.gif (Hope I'm not getting you overly-excited and you do actually enjoy it... redface.gif Let us know, OK?)

We rented this a couple of nights ago on Vudu. HDX sounded decent but again not BD quality. There were parts of this movie that scared the heck out of us, so no full drinks in your hand unless you want to wear your favorite beverage biggrin.gif overall it was the best spooker I've seen in awhile.

I enjoyed The Shinning...!
That's that one where the PRINCESS BRIDE guy is locked in a basement, and goes through his shins with a saw to free himself? Man, I was embarrased for that guy in the acting department -- remember being pretty shocked, not at the act, but how far that fellow had dropped in terms of roles undertaken and ability to be convincing in a part...

Good review Ralph. After watching Insidious and liking it very much, I blind bought The Conjuring. I haven't watched it yet and won't be able to watch it today (Halloween) cause I'd be interrupted by the door bell to much to enjoy it so I'll hold off this weekend. Here in Chicago it is supposed to be raining most of the day but I'm hoping it stops in time for the trick or treaters. I only know a couple of people personally who like horror movies. I tell folks I was born and raised on them. My Netflix Que is horror slanted as is my movie collection. If it wasn't for forums like this one, I'd feel like I wouldn't have anyone to discuss these movies with.

You know, jbug, I was tempted to watch Insidious because of how good The Conjuring is (and recommendations from the---yes---very few horror fans I know LOL) and, even though Insidious did prove to be a fun thrill ride on its own, I have to say The Conjuring is way better eek.gif. Thing is, younger audiences may have been stirred quite a bit with Insidious and may find The Conjuring less impacting, so I guess it's safe to say this new movie will strike a better chord among those of us who find classics like The Exorcist still hold up well, even by today's terms...know what I mean?

One versus the other: while you may find a few things from Insidious being reutilized in The Conjuring, the latter has better acting by every single member of a larger, more competent cast (the 5 daughters alone are fantastic, but Patrick Wilson has now become more seasoned as an actor and does a much better job, you'll see, and the rest of the cast are just superb!), it also has a more logically sound storyline (regardless of its veracity), and, of course, the well-crafted technical aspects have been perfectly covered by others on this thread... All in all, this is a much better treat than a trick, so enjoy! cool.gif

just rented this off DVD Express at the local A&P in Blairstown with my dad and it was an awesome movie. Probably the best horror movie of the year, and one based on real events. Audio and video are amazing. There are a few slow spots, but quite a few scares. I'll be getting this for christmas soon.

Scary? More like scary fun as Ralph puts it.

Overall, it kept my interest and the LFE had the clock on my wall shaking (which had my family more scared of a haunting than the movie itself).

I'm not one to sit back and say scare me, but quite frankly I had more "scare" moments more recently from "The Purge", "Six Souls", or my long-time favorite "The Strangers".

Don't mean to "conjure" up a dead thread, but I watched this twice in the past 3 weeks to scare my friends and wow! I forgot how good the audio is in this movie, especially the LFE. I ended up scaring myself multiple times.

Dead... how appropriate. This was the first movie we watched after getting our BIC Acoustitech sub. Not just awesome LFE, but well placed in the movie as well.

Greetings,

I agree all around, this one is just so well done. As for "conjuring" up old threads, that is never a problem..
