Much better than the original? That you can say that and not be embarrassed is astonishing. You're entitled to your opinion of course but in this case it happens to be wrong.

The original is still in an awkward way terrifying. I don't know what it is, if it's because it's graphic, grungy and something very creepy about it. Even all the squish sounds. Disturbingly uneasy. :/

You just know everything about the original fully tells you cyborg. Plus that score.

I had only seen the Blu-Ray remaster only a month or two ago. It was stunning from what I remember in the standard definition days. Seeing the guy get shredded from ED-209 for so long still feels uneasy. I don't know if it's because of that 80s look but it feels creepy like you should never be there.

I've still to see this new one but it feels more like a tamed sci-fi action rather than something that will be implanted into your memory for decades.

Are you telling me that the audio and video presentation are comparable?

How can I be so wrong? It is how I feel about the movie. I did not say it was a fact, only for me it is better.

You are correct in your own opinion and for someone to say your wrong for your own opinion is wrong themselves.Everybody does not like the same things and that's what makes us all unique.

Thanks for the review Ralph. Friday night I watched the movie for the first time and found the story to be just okay. I have enjoyed Joel Kinnaman's other performances like his Easy Money films, The Killing, Safe House, etc... This version of Robocop is not something that I would watch again so I sold the blu-ray the next day on Amazon for 15.00. smile.gif

Also got this one over the weekend (recommended by my 19-yr-old son--he saw it at the local theater and liked it a lot). I've only seen a few minutes (checking disc quality), but so far I +1 it. I'm looking forward to seeing it sometime this week and getting back to you guys... cool.gif

Side note: Call me odd, but I've found I don't really expect older movies to "hold up well." RoboCop back in the day was practically a lifechanger for me and my High School buddies, but I'd rather get newer stuff coming out on Blu-ray than older stuff getting the remastered treatment, simply because older titles let me down most of the time, either video- or audiowise (or both). I mean, what I see/hear doesn't match what I remember as being impacting, or something. I'm glad to hear fellow forum pals deffending and loving the original RoboCop more, and I may check it out some day myself, but, FWIW, I've really gotten a kick out of many a reboot lately, such as Total Recall, Dredd, the Daniel Craig Bond series, etc etc, even Shadow Recruit. These new movies, in my view, give enough of what made the original versions good while adding that updated oomph for a good AV experience... YMMV, but I agree with not comparing for maximum effect... wink.gif

I didn't realize that Robocop got the 3D treatment. In China it was a huge success in the converted 3D format http://celluloidjunkie.com/2014/03/12/robocops-3d-success-china-spells-trouble-imax/

I thought the first robocop was kinda whatever too... This was is also a forgettable movie in many respects except perhaps where they pull off the robotics ... and his head and lungs are hanging there.

Yikes, what a piece of crap. We quit watching after 45 minutes or so. Terrible acting. Horrible dialog. Pointless directionless plot. 90s audio. Ham fisted editing. Blech. Nominee for worst movie of the year.

Did anyone who watched this on BluRay notice that the audio on the disc is actually 7.1? Everything on the packaging and even the audio setup on the disc lists the audio as 5.1 DTS HD master, but I got 7.1 audio whether I let the BluRay player DAC do the audio conversion, or if I let the AVR do the conversion.

Newer devices from the last couple years have a newer dts decoder that auto converts 5.1 to 7.1 if you have 7.1 setup. It simply replicates the side surrounds to the rears.

I don't think that is the case here. I have several BluRay movies with 5.1 audio tracks that will only produce 5.1 surround no matter how I have my system decode the audio. Unless there is something special about the DTS HD master 5.1 that both my BluRay player and my receiver will decode the signal and up-convert it to 7.1.

This is the first BluRay disc I have watched where I have experienced 7.1 surround from a disc that is listed as 5.1.

If there is any recent release I wish I could hear in 7.1 it would be Gravity. But that BluRay is 5.1 and that is how my system delivers it.

We watched the movie with low expectations. I really was pleasantly surprised how well it wss made. Thoroughly enjoyed it except for sammy j. I especially disliked sam j's epilog. What a crappy way to end a great movie. They should have saved their money and never hired sam jackson in the first place

Regards,
Same is true of NOAH which also was released in 3D elsewhere. On Blu, it's being released in 3D editions in Germany, Australia, and perhaps other regions (except for US/CAN/UK of course.). Don't know about NOAH Blus

How come they didn't release 'Robocop' in 3D? ...That would have been more my bag.

By the way, I watched it twice (BD) without exactly knowing why; but the picture quality is nice though, mostly.

Thanks for reviewing this blu-ray, Ralph. After seeing it a few weeks back, I agree with your comment above and think your review scores summed it up quite well. I plan to watch Robocop again when the time is right, but with the volume cranked up even more than it was the last time!

What an amazing picture this film is and sound effects. Though, I have really weird feelings for the film. What a bizarre freaky feeling seeing his body split up like you were experiencing it yourself in real life discovering what happened.

The ending with Samuel was strangely amusing. As if it became a spoof. More so the music. Strange, strange feelings. Different but strange.
