Am I one of the only people in the world that didn't really like this movie?
Let me start by saying I am as big of a Scorsese fan as you can find, but this just didn't do it for me.
Visually it was stunning and arresting. No doubt there. But after that visual brilliance wears off about 30 minutes into the movie, you are left with a very straight forward story with characters that you don't care about.
I felt for Hugo and that he lost his father, but I couldn't care less about George and that he is a depressed, washed up actor. When I found out that the automaton was linked to him, I didn't care and didn't think it was a twist at all.
It was a very drawn out story to reveal almost nothing and nothing that I cared about. I know this is my personal opinion, but it didn't pay off for me.
And maybe it's just me as well, but I thought Sacha Baron Cohen was miscast and the story made it where you should feel sympathetic for him, but I was more annoyed by him than anything.
This movie is shiny with a dull story imo.
