Hi Ralph,

For a good projector, like EPSON5030UB and a good preamp, like Marantz 7702mk2 with Audyssey XT32 calibration, do I still need this Disc for calibration of both video and Audio? I heard from the review that picture quality of EPSON 5030UB out of box is already really good. Thanks.

Follow the instructions on the disc by looking through the filter with your RGB's settings for color correction. My set wasn't off that much, but it did make a difference.

Hi
Is this disc out of print?
Hard to find on line and if you do the price is extortionate.

It would appear to be a good disc to own as it appears to be very accurate and has demo clips for evaluation.
Along with my projector memory settings I could make comparisons of any improvement gained.
I'm in the UK which makes it harder to find this disc.

My understanding is that it has been discontinued.

There is a difference between pretty good and calibrated...a noticeable difference in fact.

Have you tried a different BD Player?
Interesting. Thanks for checking into this again. I currently don't own a different blu-ray player so unfortunately I can't try that.

Another comment I'd like to make now that I have a dedicated small theater room and I'm going through my calibration again. To get around this issue with the PS3 I calibrated the 5.1 speakers with the 5.1 pattern, then switched over to 7.1 for the remaining two speakers. This seems to work fine, however with my AV Receiver remaining at the same volume, the output from the 5.1 speakers are now reduced.

- I setup 5.1 at 75 db.
- I then switched over to 7.1
- I ran a check of the first 5 speakers, and they were now outputting 73 db
- I set the volume of the sbl and sbr speakers to 73 db so they all match.

This is probably receiver related, I just thought I would post it here in case someone else was running into this as well.

For those interested....looks like you can find copies of the WOW on blu ray at Amazon's Canadian site for $22 shipped. That's as of today...they may not actually have stock and they just haven't updated the listing...but can't hurt to check.

Slight problem with WoW pixel flipper:

Previously it worked fine but today when i tried to run PF instead of whole screen flipping
i got slowly moving matchbox sized flipping box and rest of the picture was frozen (no flipping).
Usually there is like 1/4th of the picture flipping that expands until whole screen is doing flipping,
now opposite: flipping part is 1/4 of the screen but shrinks to 2x3cm box ?

i checked all picture settings and didn't notice anything special, all "image helps" are off like IFC.

and i don't think either tv or br had any updates ?

I'd like to use pixel flipper, so any suggestions ? Other than that br, tv and WoW-disc works fine.

Thanks

Hi,

If you have not changed BD Players, then I am not 100% sure why this is happening.

There are no updates or changes to the Pixel Flipper on the WOW Disc.

However, it sounds like it may be a memory buffer issue on your BD Player.

Have you tried clearing the cache on your memory in the BD Player?

Other than that, I would not be able to venture any other guess regarding the issue you described.

Best,

Thumbs up

Thank you for your answer Rich, WoW is excellent home tool to set display
and i use pixel flipper regularly to avoid burn ins from channel logos etc.

I found solution and it is Panasonic BDT-700 players picture settings 24p "on" or "off".
When 24p is "off" everything works just fine but when "on" PF doesn't work correctly.

Cheers

Interesting.

My only thought is that perhaps the HDTV is not capable of true 24P and it is causing an issue.

As long as you have a work around that is a good thing...

I know the Pioneer Elite HDTV Sets are capable of true 24P and they all work well with the Pixel Flipper.

Not sure if that is the issue but it is my best guess at the moment.

I'd like to know why the Blu-ray version has been discontinued?

I see Amazon still sells the regular 10$ dvd version. Even though it's not Blu-ray, it will deliver the same calibrated results, yes? Even on newer 4K tvs, yes?

It's Disney. They probably pressed a bunch of discs and then put it back in the vault.

As for why the Blu-Ray is sold out, that's probably because it's the more popular option, while the less wanted DVD version sits on shelves.

I wouldn't bother with the DVD version unless you have a DVD path you want to calibrate. If you need to calibrate, then pick up a more readily available disc like Spears and Munsil.

Is it temporarily back-ordered? Or discontinued for good?

The scaling patterns will show errors and the color space is different for 4K.

There are some of the Blue-ray versions available if you know where to find them.

There is only new old stock available.

Thanks and it seems that I'm lucky because I bought the WOW Blu-ray a coupla years ago! It cost me the equivalent of around 35 USD! I even included it with my OG Avia dvd in a double-dvd pack! It's just a shame that it was discontinued just like that.

Just to be safe, it looks like that I will have to make some copies of my WOW disk at a specialty shop (for personal use only, I swear! ).

Are there any calibration dvds suitable for 4K right now or is the WOW enough for such tvs? Or should I wait for ones specifically made for 4K?

You can do a better calibration on 4K using the WOW disc than not but the color space is a bit different on 4K.

A brief overview about Color Space can be found here.

To be perfectly honest with you, for the past 10 years, I only calibrate the "Big 5" settings because it's so easy and really fun to do. I never bothered with gamma, color space, etc...

Once I'll have throwaway money for that 4K, with the WOW...

My body is ready.

Yes, there is an easier way to navigate the disc.

Because of the complexity of the disc, I purposely designed it to be easy to navigate.

Have you tried the arrows keys or the menu instead of the main menu button?
