Did someone say party? I imagine we will have to wait until he gets around to replacing the floor. Memorial day weekend?

Wondering if be better to do drywalling before laying floor that way when he gets the pro's in to do mudding/taping (no I'm not helping with that) the floor will not be covered in mudd.

So now EVERBODY'S a comedian. I think that's just nerves speaking. You're all afraid I'm going to kick butt.

Big weekend. No basement work, but a BIG weekend. Good news, bad news.

Bad news, first. A very dear friend, the drummer in our band passed away Saturday, very suddenly. His name was Paul Clarke. He was a great drummer and great friend. He palyed in MANY, MANY local bands , groups, anyone who needed/wanted a drummer. HE was 64 and basically just collapsed and died. He aws 64, and in what everyone thought was great shape. He will be sorely missed.

Good news....
Birthday was late last week....wife gave me a puppy! First dog I've ever owned. He's a Yellow Lab, 14 weeks. I've named him Max. It's like chasing a two year old around the house, so I was pretty busy all weekend with the dog as well as trying to get all the info for Paul's arrangements.

We also finally managed to get most of the stuff form the flood out of the living room and back in the basement and/or garage.

Drywall party? How bout a "replace the metal ducts-install the ceiling clips-install the DWFC-install the rest of the installation-install the water powered back up sump pump" party?

I have LOTS of beer!

Tom,

So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I am sure you will cherish the time you had with him.

Now, the puppy....a Lab, huh? Do you know what you got yourself into? My son has a yellow lab that is 4 years old and still acts like a rooster on acid. Boy, you can kiss that theater goodbye.

Thanks, I appreciate the thought. Paul even played with a couple of bands up your way. I don't think the guy EVER refused a gig.

You sure your son's wasn't getting into the still? I hear tell that's how you act after drinking that stuff.

I don't reckon it will slow me down anymore than the schedule I'm already on. How could it?

Tom,

Sorry for the loss, good friends are hard to lose. What an adorable addition to the family! I think you've got a friend for life right there, and a theater buddy. Of course my two lovable mutts are scared of tools, so they stay clear of the construction zone.

Progress wise, drywall is coming Weds, and green and cement board is home and ready to hang! This weekend my hired help, er..., dad and father in law, are coming for a work weekends, d'oh I mean holiday vacation so I expect some good progress this weekend.

Tom, was the misses getting you that dog her way of telling you that sitting your butt in a golf cart every weekend is not enough exercise? I've had a couple of retrievers and the only way to keep piece around the house is to make sure they get an hour a day of vigorous exercise.

You soon discover where all the dog parks are so that you can just let him loose to chase all the others around. Usually after an hour of running they are happy to come home and curl up for a nap.

As long as it works, I have no problem with it.

Eric - I aprreciate the thought. I don't INTEND to let him down there I till I get MUCH more cleaned up. Just to much temptation. I did have him outside in the back yard this morning when the trash truck came by, and he couldn't wait to get inside.

Big - You saw my fenced in yard. It's big enough to let him run around. And there are three dogs next door that he can least run back and forth with. Nice dogs, but they tend to bark up a storm...I just hope they don't teach mine to do the same. And I'M the one who needs an hour of VIGOROUS excercise everyday. The dog is just a bonus.

You are going to need to get a chuckit.

It will save your shoulder for your golf game.

It really is amazing.

Using that is how I blew out my elbow. On the plus side I learn how to throw with it using my left arm. It's the only way to wear out my dogs.

Interesting!
Were you doing an overhand or a sidearm launch?

The difference is a hammer versus tennis racket swing motion.

In Toms case you can actually stand sideways and us a golf club underhand motion.

REFLECTION:

Here we are with over 1000 posts and approaching 40,000 views and the LOGANTOR just got his close-in-inspection. I think it is safe to say that we are now looking at 2010 model projectors to finish off this space.

Now to put this in perspective, Sandman had his first layer of drywall up in post #54.

As you very well know, he did have a flood in the basement....and he had to play a lot of golf this past summer.....it is time consuming to have to travel to all of those golf courses....and if I recall, he injured his back....and attending the Redskins games....and watching lots of ball games on the weekend....and now his winter excuse is going to be the puppy.....

I don't think anyone around here is in fear of losing to good ole Tom.

....and this morning I'm late chiming in because I broke a tooth and just had the temp crown put in (and now that the novacaine is wearing off, IT HURTS!). But I appreciate your sticking up for me.

OK, I realize I never gave out the puppy's name.

It's Max. I thought that up on the first day, just a good name for big dog. But now that you're all asking for a theater related name, it DOES have a ring to it, as in cineMax.

Ahhh...NOW the truth comes out....you told me it was on the rowing machine....not that it sounds anymore manly than playing with your dog or anything.

But it looks like an interesting toy. Right now, after the three other toys I bought him, he LOVES the towel I used to try (notice I said TRY) to dry him off last night after taking him out in the rain.

I heard something about a "kong ball" too. Anyone else? So now who gets my money? HD or PetSmart? Not to get off topic or anything....

LIFESAVERS!!!!! Fill them with peanut butter or other goo and you get 10-15 minutes of peace an quiet! (Just do it outside as they can be messy)

The other one we use is called a Buster Cube... Fill it with kibble, cheerios or the like and the lovable mutt has to move it around with the nose to get the treat. Again 15 minutes of peace.

Before I forget....

HEY All you NOVA/DC Metro area guys....

I just noticed one of those "going out of business signs" for Champions. Not sure if it's all of them or only the one over at Dulles Town Center. Might be worth checking out for theater goodies. The last time I was in there I saw that they carry Berkline.

Hehe, the misses heard us. She saw Tom getting on a role and threw another distraction our way.

The Kong is great with some peanut butter in it.

The Cube is interesting. I had a version that was a ball. At first my dog would kick it around like a soccer ball and put dents in the wall trying to get the food. Later she learned to pin it with her paws, and chew the back plug open to easily get it out. She was too darn smart for her own good. I ended up having to superglue it closed so she wouldn't get into it that easy.

Speaking from experience, nails in shoes will NOT stop your puppy from chewing on them...

And if anyone knows what will stop the dog from chewing on shoes, please PM me!

Nah. The original "pop" happened while using the chuck-it. Rowing made it a lot worse.

As for dog toys - nothing that even remotely looks like something you don't want chewed. No shoes, no clothing, no paper, etc. You have to be clear what is allowed and what isn't and be 100% consistent. A dog doesn't understand the different between old and new shoes.

We largely stick with stuffed squeaky toys. Neither dog likes kong toys.

Also, let me know if you want a trainer. I know a place which does ALL of the work for you. It's a 5 week boot-camp program that you send them away to. Costs about a grand, but you will have a perfectly trained dog. They yo gun dog training too.

You need a Buster Cube.

~6" plastic cube, hollow, baffles inside. You put dog food in it (maybe a half cup). Dog bats it around with his nose and the food pops out a piece or two at a time over 10 minutes. It's a blast to watch, and they LOVE them.

I used to use one with my sheltie. They get SOOO focused on them, and they get to be experts and knocking the food out of them.

Never give a dog a piece of what you are eating and he will never beg.

Once you give in it's game over and he will stare you down ever time you are eating.

If you've had the dog 5 days .........bet I'm too late.
