Come on, the sharks are playing the best hockey around.

Osgood and conklin dont have it in them to get another championship this season, I just dont see it, although it is quite early.

Not much to report but those little tasks add up.

Ran past Lowes and picked up an inexpensive set of blinds for the game room windows. Put them up last night.

Also pulled out the Harmony One and set up some very basic functions. Works pretty slick.

Still waiting on my third row countertop.

Man, that took longer than I thought it would...

Finally.

I bought the material from a left over sale but when they went to cut it, some machine messed up so they had to order a new slab.

I still need to do the trim work around it but...

Before

After!!!

Dimentions if anyone is interested

18 3/8" of counter top depth
6 3/4" back splash height
7 3/4" depth of top shelf
118 3/4" length

Top shelf overhangs 1 1/2" toward counter top
Top shelf overhangs 3/4" toward front of room

Material: Stylestone
Color: Ebony Pearl

This was designed so I could comfortably fit my lap top on it.

I also had them groove the under side of the top shelf 1/2" wide and 1/4" from the back splash so I can recess some rope light.

Very happy with how it turned out. If I had it to do again, I might have gone with just slightly more overhang of top shelf (say 2 or 2.5" instead of 1.5") to hide the rope light a little more but no complaints.

Very Cool.

Man, that took longer than I thought it would...

Me too!!!

My countertop is just under 10' and I can only cut the rope light every 2' so I am trying with 8'. I just used silicone to hold up the track Biggie suggested that I got from NoveltyLights.com. I had to trim down the base with a razor blade but it tucked in there nicely.

I don't have curtains yet so I can't wait until it gets dark in here to check it out. Also need to figure out how I will hide the wire at the end. The box in the back splash at the end is for that purpose but the cord is so loooong...

This one shows the reflection of the light on the counter top.

P.S. And no, the Craftsman stool is not the long term plan... Maybe if I was a NASCAR fan...

Man, that took longer than I thought it would...

Yea, adjustable height, foot rest... not bad. I see they have some out with arms now. I wouldn't want to sit in it for a long time. Not a very thick cushon. If you wait and buy it when they put it on sale, it is a pretty good deal. This one is for my garage workshop but I stole it from there until I get my theater stools.

Lights... without all the clamps.

Hard to get a good pic

Eventually it will be on a dimmer and the switch will be under the coutnertop to the far left (by left knee of left most position where you can see some wires sticking out).

I think 8' will be enough.

Here is a shot of the box I have to work with. It is tied to a box on the other side of the bar that is run by the previously mentioned switch. Not quite sure how I will wire. It is very deep due to the depth of the back splash so I may install the outlet in the box that is deep then coil the wire in the 1" + space infront of it then put some other cover on the surface of the back splash.

Looks very clean! I can see why more overhang would have been nice though. Something you can try to hide the light is a 3/8" rope light instead of 1/2". It might sit deeper in the groove.

Good thought. I am using the plastic channel to hold the rope so I could also color the front part part of the channel with black marker or something.

Ahh... so you aren't tension fitting the rope directly into the groove? You might be able to stuff the 1/2" in there and have it sit lower without the channel/track. Otherwise, I might try the 3/8" rope.

More baby steps... And being that we are probably days away from a new baby, it is appropriate.

Wife isn't due until 1/23 but I will be suprised if she makes it until next week.

As for progress.

-Hung the thermostat.
-Hung the unfinished pocket door. (Probably will not sand and paint until Spring so I wanted to get it up. It will cut down on sound traveling up the steps.)
-Spent 4 hours collecting and recording all basement expenses thus far. Just shy of 36k at this point. So much for the initial 40k budget. I figure I have about 13k to go.
-also hung the utility room door. The noise from the furnace and hot water heater was getting a little anoying. Still need the door hardware but it will work for now.
-loaded all of my music onto the I-pod. (not much unfortunately.)
-lastly, got my game room speakers hooked up so I can listen to the same thing that is in the theater. Running second receiver through 4 position Jamo zone voume control.

Right now, in preparation for the baby, it is more about cleaning up and preparing for 3 months or so of little or no progress. Who knows. With a few weeks off work, maybe I will get some of the on-line stuff ordered (theater lights, curtains etc..) We'll see...

Man, that took longer than I thought it would...

Oh, my little tax deduction is just hours from slipping into next year.

Note the particularly big head... Yea my wife is thanking me for that.

We spent 5 hours at the doctor yesterday with contractions but they sent us home instead of to the hospital...

All is well which is what is most important but that tax deduction is just slipping away. Results of the amnio say we need to wait till next week unless something changes with the wife...

I am off work now and for the next 2 1/2 weeks.

Did I mention... Life is good.

Healthy family. Healthly daughter is on the way. Off work for a few. Theater is functional (daughter and I are watching one of the American Girl movies as I type this).

Yep. Life is good.

Man, that took longer than I thought it would...

Best of luck to you in '09! Here's hoping the good life continues!

I know what you mean. Last week I was out in the back yard with the dog, looking at my in-the-middle-of-the-development-yet-backed-up-to-woods 3 rail fence. It was a little dark, the dog was runnning around, the wife was inside fixing dinner, I have a job, and all I could think was life IS good. I have my little piece of ground that feels a little like its in the country and a good life, a great wife, son and now the dog. And friends and neighbors and all you guys here on the forums to crack wise on...the REALLY important things in life.

Happy New Year.

Did all you guys start drinking early this evening?

OK, OK I know what you mean.

Drew, you need to work on your timing! I made sure my tax deduction arrived a little early to be safe, but not too early. He arrived in October. Right now he is smiling like crazy, kicking his feet and throwing his arms around. He is so much fun to watch! And the best part is he is sleeping through the night! WOOHOO!

Counter top looks great Drew.

And congrats on your little tax deduction... I mean daughter (when she arrives). Glad life is good for you. I have no complaints either.

All the best for the new year! Enjoy the time off, and a healthy delivery for all.
