HA! They would have to be on sale or clearance or it would not fit into the whole theme of the RIKAT!

How did you paint your previous crown? The stuff I got says NOT to use spray paint and I need it to be gray.

Thanks,

Alright let's bring this thread back to something that resembles HT discussion, you're all forgiven!

The last thing I am trying to decide on now is a popcorn machine. For some reason I just can't make up my mind on this one. I have decided to get a 6 or 8 oz machine, and have ruled out the 4 oz models. Reason being that the 6 and 8 oz machines come with a 3rd switch that allows you to operate the stirrer separately from the kettle heat. I have a thread going that discusses this, have a look:

Hi Scott,

I painted it using the paint that was included when I bought my house, it looks like standard latex house paint. Just get yourself some gray mixed up at HD or Lowes.

That is correct. I was considering the purchase of a paint sprayer but couldn't justify the cost for such a minor job.

Thank you. I have always been amazed at how nice of a space can be assembled for relatively little money. My whole theater costs less than some plasma TV's and those aren't even close to the 120" size of my screen.

Sure it would be nice for money to be no object, but part of the fun is stretching the buck...

Probably because many spray paints dissolve foam.

+1 on this one. I am building my entire space on a strict budget for numerous reasons and its great to walk into a BB or other electronics store and see the prices on huge plasmas or LCD's and know that there are those of us out here that are really outdoing them in so many ways for the same (or less) money.

Wow imagine walking into Best Buy and looking at a 120" plasma! What would that run, $25,000??? More? Just guessing but I am certain it wouldn't be cheap.

If you really want to spray just get the standard foam safe house paint mixed up in your color. Then buy a paint sprayer, they sell many models at the home improvement stores.

BestBuy doesn't have anything that big on their website, but Amazon has a 103" Plasma (Link: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-TH-1...5758513&sr=1-1) for $42,966.

Yikes!

You have to figure those people buying $42000 plasmas just don't know any better. Think about it, if they bought the BEST 1080 projector they still wouldn't come anywhere near $42000! More like $4200! If that!

Front projection is the best kept secret in HT!

Yeah - you could get some top of the line speakers, a high-end projector, screen, and all of your equipment for $42,000.

Or you could buy a car (or TWO), or put a good down payment on a house.

$42000??? My whole HT was less than $4200; seats, projector, screen, computer, everything!

I am certain That's a better deal than one plasma screen for $42000!

If you notice that is the USED price on that plasma. I can only imagine it was tens of thousands of dollars more new.

I agree that bang for the buck you can't beat projectors and they are the best kept secret in HT, but that is starting to change.

Not to start a flaming debate, but I have to chime in as a plasma fanboy since I have two of them now. To me if you can't go the projector route then a REASONABLY priced plasma in the 42-50 inch range can get you a much better movie experience vs. LCD but I digress and that is not what this thread is about.

I too (as most here) am on a budget and since my build is an entire basement I will be well over the 5 grand mark (just to finish out the basement) not including the equipment. I would have loved to have a ready made room to make into my own HT without building from scratch if not just for speed and cost. I found out by doing my room redo that I am much faster when the walls are already build for me. 8-)

On your popcorn machine I would go the 6 oz. machine with three switches it is always better to have the option. Seems the consensus in your other thread and some of the others is that it is nice to have the option to turn the kettle off and keep the stirrer on.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

I completely agree and will be purchasing a 6 or 8 oz machine. The seller I want to buy from has been out of stock for the last month or so but told me they will be restocked mid March. They offer the 6 or 8 oz machines in red, blue, or black; I am going with red.

We had our first official movie night in the new HT last night. It was a great experience, unfortunately the Blu-ray turned out to be one of the poorest quality transfers I have ever seen. We really enjoyed the movie and experience anyway. It was "Midnight Meat Train", fairly dumb though as it turns out accurate title. The movie exceeded my expectations (which were just about nothing) by quite a wide margin. I almost gave up on it about 15 minutes in but I am really glad I stuck with it, it was a very original horror film.

Next up in the HT will be "The Changeling" on Blu-ray. I am expecting a MUCH better transfer on that one, and I know it is going to be a great movie (when does Clint make a bad one?).
