Ah, I see said the blind man, as he took out his hammer and saw..........

Good luck, bad luck, who knows....

The LED's look pretty slick. I have not seen the "next generation" of rope lighting. How does it compare to the regular rope lighting as far as brightness?

Like a blind man cares about how bright rope lighting is...

So I went into the hole today and spent a good hour cleaning up. I was really good the first week of the build - cleaning up after every session. After that, my tools learned to be at one with the last place I left them. Now everything is back close to its place, the inch of sawdust covering the concrete is corralled into bags, and I'm ready for another session of turtle progress.

For some odd reason the cat keeps stealing spent framing nails and putting them into her water dish. MIL thinks its a sign she has an iron deficiency . She also steals drill bits and screws. I guess I should clean up more often.

I measured the rough framing dimensions:

17' 7" wide
27' 0" long
8' 0" tall

Nope, they haven't changed since the last time I was down there.

Since RTROSE questioned my ability to see the (nonexistent) future I had to prove that not only could I in fact see the future but I could also be the future. I did pay the drywallers in the nonexistent future for a job well done.

How do I know I'm in the nonexistent future? I found a place to buy these new tools to help with accelerating my ability to be the theater.

I may in fact be fooling myself today, but that is yet to be seen. Clearly I didn't fool any of you if only because you are not yet at one with the future that doesn't presently exist and never will.

As further proof that I am the future I offer you this parable regarding the upcoming Easter that doesn't yet exist.

Plus one. One of the reasons I have been absent recently is that last weekend I took a pause to "clean up" and "find my tools". Took me all weekend and made me want to drink. So, I think I did. Can't remember.

Ah, the sacred diminished clarity of consciousness. I can't remember if I did that either.

This is the second weekend in a row we've had family from out of town staying with us. Last weekend the mother in law did a four day stint. This time it is my mom's turn to do six days. At some point I'll get back to building.

I was able to complete the demo portion of opening up the stairs. It included moving some electrical (lights and outlets). It's been so long since I wired a three pole switch that I didn't get it right the first time. But this will all be replaced when the subpanel is installed and new runs for the basement are completed.

I also purchased 100ft of a Flexmaster "equivalent". I wasn't sure if it would be a good idea, but Ted and Big chimed in over here.

JPL Acoustic Duct

I need to go pick it up next week. I think spring has now come, and the theater did not build itself.

One, must first you be with the very springness of the spring, 'ere your theater will grown itself.

Worked for me, it did. One with the drywall taping and mudding, was I, and one with the priming am I about to be.

Mayhaps there is an overload of maternal hormones in the house lately disrupting the universal harmony up yonder in the mountains. Back to your happy place, must you go, and begin anew ....

I thought I had recovered from the maternal ones. Then I electrocuted myself back into reality (damn breakers should know what I'm going to do ahead of time).

I finally rewired the three way switch, basement light switch, and non gfi outlet that I moved during the demo of the stair walls. That reaffirmed my decision to hire a licensed electrician for the "playing with fire" stage.

Oh, the no progress without photos gauntlet has been thrown down. How does that affect (effect) your Zen like calmness????

Oh I know you saw this coming oh Zen one, but the question is why you did not intervene to keep the Zen like mantra of your thread. I don't ask the question to create further discord I am only looking for enlightenment.

Great progress on the future drywall, it looks great!

My electrical cords are not discontiguous and therefore there is no discord. Chain plugged they are, form of enso.

I am now at one with hiring most everything out. This doesn't mean progress will happen any faster - as Queen would attest. But it does mean that my time will be better spent on things that really matter.

I tweaked my wrist in March and am claiming HT disability. The wife finally got me to go for xrays last week and with Zen like clarity the results were negative. I'm on the mend but...

Well, yes and no. I have a 150" diag 16:9 screen in my living room. So that whole "don't hang the projector before you are done" thing is a bit of a problem in my case.

But I'm getting back to it. However, I did provide a warning:

For example - drawing dinosaurs with my daughter:

Ok, enough of that.

Here is one of the windows in the theater. Class, who can tell me what is wrong?

Rack - back to the decision to not expose the rack. I'm just going to keep it in the mechanical room and not expose it in the wall. It's a good thing I left enough depth. I think this will also help with the isolation.

Stairs - I finally moved the electrical so I could finish the demo of the stairs.

Looking from the mechanical room towards the control room.

Looking from the control room towards the mechanical room.

Under the stairs I agreed to put a wine fridge, wine rack, and glass holder for my wife.

Control room - as I previously mentioned, my build includes the theater that can also be used as a tracking room. A lot of the acoustic principles used in theater design apply in control rooms. However, when you go small like mine there are a number of room mode issues to work out. Because I'm not going to be selling my services I'm not being overly critical.

Here is the closest representation to my current direction for the control room. However, I won't be soffit mounting gargantuan monitors like in the pic.

I started framing the front wall. Note the water main in the right corner.

Obviously I must provide access to this entire area. So I plan to build a thick MDF door on hinges with double seals to allow as much isolation as possible. It will be almost the entire width and height of the rough framing. Lot's of high frequency coming out of those pipes when someone turns on a faucet, flushes, showers, dishwasher or washing machine kicks in, etc. Luckily most of my time down there will be when everyone else is in bed.

Note: there is also the infamous sump pit. I plan to block it in with a removable cover - again with thick MDF and double seals. I'll do the same with the main cleanout for the entire house.

Lastly, because I know how much Hanes likes wood (have you seen his thread lately?) here is a photo of mine.

BTW - the Waterton Tavern Grand Opening was a hit. Standing room only all day - they couldn't let more people in due to fire code. That's why we hit the liquor store instead and walked back home. When you get back maybe we can all check it out together.

I thought there was no way I would fill the thing up. Then I downloaded Racktools and sure enough I found a way to fill it up with goodies.

Ah, learning you are in your mind but not from your actions. The question about heat it is not. Learn in your mind what comes before the heat you must. Ingredients. Ingredients have you found for yourself. Use the ingredients Moggie. Fat checkbook. Beer. Then your theater grow it will. Mindful of the ingredient order you must be and use the Hanesometer always.
