So working on the back wall right now. Decided to forgo columns and just baffle it out:

Here is one of the sub columns covered. Not in final place yet, but gives you an idea:

Agent appointed, if we dont sell before 19th Dec, it'll be on for auction....got 10 days to get it finished......and......

They want the room operational.......F_ _ _!!!!!!!

Speakers are no problem. I've got all those JBL's that I'll throw in a box and use.....but a god damn projector!....

So its a 2.35 ratio

2.5m wide

3.7m throw

How does this zooming caper work? anyone?

Hi Peter,

Thats very kind. I'll let you know.

Probably going to pull the trigger on an AE8000 today so I might need a hand to get it going. I'll keep you posted....room just about done.....sort of

Coming together very quickly and looking great Peter. This is one of the strangest builds. I think most guys here build rooms for love and for years of enjoyment. Seems cruel to have such a great room and hand it over to someone else. Fantastic effort though Pete.

Thanks mate. I suppose I view this as my apprenticeship, so next time round it'll be the real deal......thats what I keep telling myself anyhow....

Got a refurbished AE8000 coming. With some luck it'll be here by Friday.

At least we'll get to watch a few movies in there, even if its with not so great gear. As soon as we sell I'll shift the living room monitors down there and try to work something with a small sub I have. I think I'll leave the room equipped for the buyers now. They can have my old receiver (assuming they $,$$$,$$$)

No, but they all said "do it"...wait and see I guess. There is about $70k of my labour in it (at my hourly equivalent.....) plus about $30k in materials....I cant see us getting that back, but you never know

Getting there, getting there.....

So the AVS Award for the Most Dodgy, Bodgy, Shonky Center Speaker goes to ------ "The Downunder Theatre MkII" yay, crowd goes wild...........this is hands down the worst thing I have ever built, its embarrassingly ugly, but does the job:

All covered up (just have the side panels to do (around the L and R)

Hi Peter,

I can understand the agents view - whilst a theatre room may not add much value (unless the right buyer comes along (fingers crossed emoji !!), an unfinished room would be a real dis-incentive, as most people wouldn't have the knowledge or interest to ever finish it off, and who'd want a half finished theatre.

Still available Sat arvo if required.

Cheers,

Mate - Lets take a rain check, I was hoping to have the bulk of the work finished yesterday, but it didn't happen with the speaker install, so the projector stuff will have to happen in the nighttime.

Once we're sold or at least on the market why not pop round and have a gander. Perhaps after actually, them I can put my "good" left and right down there and really see what the room can do....bass aside - although I suppose we can lug the sub down there.

OMFG - @SierraMikeBravo your a freakin genius!

We have sound!

Two things. Even with my cheapo QSC speakers installed (which as an aside measure rather well) the sound stage, both width and depth are out of this world, amazing! Never have I heard anything like it in a room this size, its unbelievable, even the wife is impressed! I mean we're talking cheap out of the box gear here, no calibration.

Point two - sound proofing even without seals on the main door (the big none) is outstanding. You can hear it a little downstairs, but upstairs there is nothing, nada, not a thing and I had it absolutely cranked. Superb. @Ted White hats off to your help and assistance in planning all those years ago and for the wonderful GG

Now back to our scheduled programming of me running around doing pre-sale prep.......BORING!

Special thanks to the following:
@SierraMikeBravo for the plans and help. Wouldn't have been the same without it
@Roger Dressler for my constant pestering and questions about his identical sized room, thoughts on layout, surrounds etc (and for a rocking design)
@Dennis Erskine for many, many years of inspirational builds and guidance to DIY'ers on this thread

And the official Downunder Captains in Greg and Peter for their "support" "help" and general banter over the past few years.....bring on the next one!

Edit: @BIGmouthinDC should also get a mention, much practical wisdom provided over the years I've been watching your great work e.g. drywall under the floor etc

You should he rightly proud of that effort Peter. Really looks great and an excellent use of the space. Can't wait to see the professionsl photos. Love the obligatory Casino Royale screen shot! For a build so long in the planning, it ended up being a very fast construction. Congrats mate.

Thanks Jeff, very kind of you.

Floor excluded, the colour scheme is a complete rip off of Peter M's room. Though my ceiling and soffits are different, as is the screen wall, as are the columns.

Perhaps you can buy this as a holiday home in Australia and you can help me build the new room (erh.....doesn't quite work as a holiday does it?)

.....here's hoping that doesn't take another 6 years
