I thought I would appease RT ROSE and post a couple of new pictures. We just back from Spring Break and have been working on outside stuff around the house so progress on the basement has been slow. We are just waiting to have a garage sale here in a couple of weeks so that we can clear a bunch of stuff out.

Hope you enjoy the pictures of St. Martin and St. Kitts and Nevis..........

St. Kitts mowing service.

My daughter playing in the sand in St. Martin.

Warning signs at Maho Beach, St. Martin. The beach was right next to the runway.

Here comes the jet.

No zoom needed.

Had a couple of these on vacation.

At the Brimstone Fort, looking off at the distance.

And back to reality, here are the ceiling panels that we have decided on. Sorry about the blurry photos. My camera was going dead and didn't want to focus. Let me know which one you like the best. I like the black but the wife likes the white because she is afraid it is going to make the basement too dark. We have also decided to stain the concrete basement floor in the future. A couple of weeks from now we are also meeting with the amish family who built our cabinets that we have in our house. We plan on using them for the cabinets in the basement as well. Lots of stuff going on and I will of course keep you updated. Thanks for following along.

Ahh the Caribbean. Did you fly to Saba by any chance? They've got the world's shortest runway, and it's quite the experience. I'll be moving down there at the end of the month if anyone needs a couch to crash on.

Oh, and black .

Well,

Do I even need to say which ceiling tile I like? Black, white is so well, ah white.''

Thanks for sharing the photos. To everyone else I also got to see a video of the aircraft landing at the airport just off the beach. Pretty impressive to say the least.

I hate preparing for garage sales. I know some people really enjoy doing them, I just never saw the fun in it I guess. Good luck and keep us updated.

Love the picture of the plane coming at you for several reasons......lol. I watched a show on the travel channel about this beach and the airport being so close. Isnt there a bar right at the beach that sits along a road that people just sit there, drink a few cocktails and watch the planes?

We sat there for about about 2 hours...... Plus the bar you are talking about had Amstels for $2.00 each. Not a bad way to spend the day.

Been a while since I have posted any progress because their hasn't been any on the rest of the basement. We finally got around to working on the basement again with the hope that it will be done in about eight weeks. We decided to stain the concrete.

However, the stain did not completely dry before we put the sealer on which created a huge problem. Paint rolls all over the floor. We didn't see it until the sealer dried. The good news is that the company that I bought the stain from is going to come by tomorrow and get the sealer up, respray the stain, and reseal at no charge.

I will post some more photos after we get the floor done. I got cabinets picked out for the "wet bar" however, my amish cabinet maker is on vacation and won't be available for another week.

They are from photoshop files that I got here on the forum. The second picture was made up of a collage of pictures that I got off of member "mheadroom"s website called tinstudio. If you check his thread you can see what some other people did with them as well. The first picture is 10X30, the second is 20X30 and the ticket booth is 24X36. The posters are glossy and turned out great. I know nothing about photoshop so a local printing place took care of the editing and adding logos for me. Out the door for $100.00 for all three posters.

Ah, progress! Very nicely done on the posters. Very cool. I know that the floor will turn out just fine after the redo. I really like the floor color well done. You will have to update us on the redo after all is well.

So the Amish take vacations huh? Who'd a thunk it?

MatthewH,

Sorry to hear about the setback on the concrete staining. I think in the end this will turn out to be nice rich/rustic look! Your posters and signage turned out great.

A favor: I really like the ticket booth poster - and would love to get the artwork or a link to it? I have a perfect location for this in my stairwell and would love to try backlighting a ticket-booth poster

After eight hours of sanding, buffing, spraying and more buffing then finally sealing. The floor has been fixed. I will post photos tomorrow. Just want to make sure it is dried good before I walk too much on it.

Here are some new floor pictures. After everything dried, we got about 90% of the paint roll marks fixed. Not perfect but good enough. I am going to the sealer sit on there for a week before I put the wax on. Next up, getting cabinets ordered and picking out paint colors for the walls.

I worked on a house where the entire first floor was stained concrete, they had cut curved intersecting lines in it and where the intersecting made a shape they stained that area a different color...it was a pretty neat effect....

anyway nice gratz on the floor.

This flooring is for the remainder of his basement. His theater room is carpeted, completed and from personal experience the acoustics are just fine. I agree with you Steve that this would be far from ideal for a theater application but Matt has it covered (pun intended) in his actual theater.

Hard to see the roller marks from the photos, but where they are the most visible you can always strategically place throw rugs and furniture in those areas.

MatthewH,

I like the look of the stained concrete! I considered doing this for my adjoining basement rooms. I think it gives a nice rustic look that is also forgiving!

Good Choice!

Sorry Steve, I just did not see the "funny" as it were. I have been missing a lot of the joking here lately, must be because I'm stressed as it were and I find it hard here lately to find humor in obvious places. Maybe the Epic Failure is mine and not yours!

All in good fun my good man, I'll look harder for the humor in the future.

Very, very nice. I really do like the color, very rich looking color. I think it turned out really well.

Do you have any idea what color you are going to go for on the wall?

Not sure on the wall color yet. Most likely some sort of earth tone, however, it will be a lighter color because I still want to do the black ceilings. Open for suggestions though. We will be making a decision this week though.
