Unless this is a condo with a firewall, just go with the orange low voltage braket that is open. Much easier.
Cut your hole first and test fit the bracket to make sure it fits, then put it aside. Run your wires, then you can thread the bracket on and attach it to the wall, then thread the plate on and attach it to the bracket.
Also, just go ahead and get a dual gang instead of single. Much easier to work with since you can get your hand and forearm in and search around for the wire, which always seems to come down slightly away from the hole.
