Too Funny, Remind me to have you in on any further discussion of color in my thread so I'll know pretty quick which direction to go.

Brad,

Great choice on the chinchilla (as it was MY first choice as well) you have great taste. The rendering in chinchilla looks the best and will even look better in real life.

You are a valuable resource to the community.

Ordered it just now, hopefully should be here by next weekend (ordered from Fabricmate, they are just about 75 miles from me - dunno if they stock everything they list or not though, so we'll see). Since I have all the panels built, I'm hoping that the fabric covering should go pretty quickly, it did for the column face panels anyway. Measuring and cutting (to ensure minimal fabric waste / minimal screw up) seems to take as long as actually covering the panels.

Thanks RT, I'm sure it will look better in real life too, my slop renders aren't exactly photo realistic like some of the guys on here can do.

When you get the fabric, place some tape on one end of the tube. make sure that side is up, then make sure every panel you make you make sure i is up, and the same face showing out. Otherwise you could get a slight variation in the shade of the color if you are upside down, or 90 degrees turned, or the other side showing out. I made this mistake with the speaker cloth, but it is hidden behind the screen, so I made sure it was not an issue with the GOM by using this tape trick. Also, every peice I cot off, I added some tape to oriend it in case I needed to come back and use a small scrap for something.

Thanks Michael, I hadn't considered that, will keep an eye out for any variations in the fabric when I get it (looks like next Monday, boo - oh well, I'll have plenty to do this weekend anyway, after carpet is installed this Friday). I didn't have any problems with the speaker cloth, but maybe I was just lucky.

Thanks for the samples Brad! Made getting the mail fun today.

That Commando cloth is quite thicker than the speaker fabric. I like both of them, trying to figure out which one would be better adjacent to the screen. I "think" I like the Commando cloth but need to hang them and shut everything off to check it out.

Can't wait to see your carpet, your garage is gonna be the bomb.

As stated above ^^ Thanks as well for the samples Brad it is much appreciated. It too made getting the mail fun. I have to say the speaker cloth is NOT what I pictured it. I assumed it would be similar to what is used to cover speaker grills?! I think the extra cost for the GOM is worth it here. The commando if I have a use for it (maybe screen wall?)is a nice heavy cloth with almost no light transmission. Again thanks and I will let you know when I am ready to place my order.......

A couple things to keep in mind with the Commando Cloth (the heavy variety that I sent): its not acoustically transparent (try blowing through it); because it has a "nap" (fuzzy surface somewhat like velvet), you kind of have to brush the nap all one direction to get a uniform appearance; because it has a very tight weave, its harder to fire a brad nail through it and have it "disappear", like you can with a more open weave like GoM 701 (or speaker cloth). It does seem to soak up light well though.

For my screen wall, I think I'm going to use Dazian Celtic cloth - got a sample of it last week, its nice, and not too expensive. I may set a record for most different kinds of fabric, lol.

Yes, its used for making speaker grills. I know it looks super sheer, I was concerned when I got it too, but pull it tight over a piece of wood, you might be surprised how well it hides what's behind. Its used here (the wood underneath was painted black just in case), looks pretty different than when you just look at the fabric alone up close with light behind:

I used it over OC 703 too, and none of the yellow shows through.

Thanks Brad it does indeed look different (better)stretched over something rather than just a sample. Where are you getting your Dazian from? Samplace I assume? Oh and where are our pics of carpet samples? You mean we all didnt get to see a dozen color/style samples to help you choose? I sure remember the days we all got to help make decisions around here.......

Here's how the carpet looks so far:

I dunno, I thought it would be darker.

They were supposed to come at 10:00, but didn't get here until like 10:05, I think I should ask for a discount.

Aren't they done by now? It has been at LEAST 3 hours.

I'm going to run out to the garage and stretch that speaker cloth sample over some OC703. I just have to see it for myself. It looks pretty thin, but I like it better than Commando by the screen...(and I need acoustically transparent, I'd assume).

Haha, yeah I was pretty confused - is his name Greg? I was like, wtf, I thought this was Steve's account, and Greg is pillpusherx?? I was going to play anyway, but they started a quick scope private match, and I really am not into quick scoping.

Looking great brad - I know the feeling on waiting to get stuff into the room

The carpet looks awesome - one thing I keep thinking about is how
MUCH material actually goes into these rooms - it's just scary - and that's before any of the actual theater stuff goes in

Keep it up - looking forward to the progress

Looking good my friend. I sure you were stressing a little when your carpet guys were five minutes late. Whoa, carpet disaster averted. ;-)

At least with Xbox live you guys can still get online. With the Playstation Network being down for the past couple of days and apparently for a couple more my online gaming has been seriously curtailed. Must be why I have actually gotten some work done in the theater.

Man this guy is slow - good thing I'm not paying him by the hour. Oh well, as long as he does a good job, and seems to be doing so. I wish he'd finish early though, so I can put my columns back today, and maybe drag seats in - probably wishful thinking though.

Will need to recover one of my column faces - two of the columns fell over in the garage, and one of the panels landed right on the handle of a Razor. Could have been a lot worse, looks like the one panel fabric was the only damage. I thought sure they were tilted at enough of an angle to not fall over, but I guess they're front heavy due to the face panels now.

Your room is looking great. Betting that you will be rewarded for your patience and his attention to detail - took my installer 10 hours to lay the carpet. Maybe fire up the grill and stir up a few cocktails to help pass the time...
