Good luck making it happen over these next 2 weeks Greg. I've got the 7th to the 18th of Jan off so willbe pushing to get mine done too. Should be all complete except the carpet...bloddy xmas time makes it impossible to get someone to lay for me....hmm, that might of come out wrong.

Looking forward to the progress mate.

You weren't kidding. After seeing the fireworks in Sydney it makes the NYC ball drop look like a cheap children's birthday party. biggrin.gif

Aaustin. ... yes we do a pretty good party down here. Slightly more sophisticated these days than the good old 'throw a shrimp on the Barbie....'. Hell, even Oprah had a good time here. Fireworks cost a very substantial 6.6 million. Bargain!

Happy new year Peter. Hope that 2013 is a great year for you and the family. I must be getting old or boring.... 9pm feels like midnight these days.
Managed to get the conduit out of the ceiling today to free up some cable for the projector. ****** job and just when I thought I had seen the end of drywall dust.... anyway now the issue is that I cannot push or pull the cables. Not sure why but the two hdmi cables are caught somewhere inside the 32mm tubing. What a PITA. I have one good hdmi cable and really only need one. Other option is to get up in the roof (we are having 100 degree summer days here so that wont be fun) and pull the conduit out of situ and straighten it so that the cables can be pulled through. Never buying ribbed conduit again. Period. Ribbed is definitely not designed for pleasure despite what they say!
On a happier note, met up with peter Elill today and he has eagerly volunteered some time to help stretch the screen material out on the frame. Hopefully we can achieve that tomorrow and then it's on installing the screen. He wanted to come over early but I dont like drinking beer much before 9am. Going to be a very serious days work!

After one coffee, almost no swearing, no beer and a few dozen staples behold.... 145 inches of cinemascope acoustically transparent awesomeness. Thanks heaps for your help Peter. It was actually the simplest part of the build so far. The end is in sight. Some pictures..

Anytime mate, glad to see the room nearly there!

On a completely different note, I have things sorted at home - god knows what happened, but I've re-set all the dsp settings and the imaging is better then it was now. You'll have to come over and help me drink that other beer! biggrin.gif

I wondered what happened to your HT. I have not been getting updates at all. Where did you buy your Oppo from?

I was going to buy one also this year but wondered if they were universal power supply or not?

Either way your progress is looking amazing.

Hi there David. Progress has been slow but I am getting there. Will hopefully be getting the screen on the wall tomorrow and with any luck be finished in the room by early next week. Then it's on to sorting out the rack and building that into the wall. Another job! Oppo was from an EBay seller in the US. He accepted an offer of $ us615 plus $ us85 freight for a modded unit. It has universal voltage so no issues.
Cheers mate.

Hi there Peter. The screen has a claimed gain of 1.2 and looks much whiter and brighter than the white fabric that was on my temp screen. Hopefully it will give even more pop to my picture. All going well my screen will be up tomorrow and the room firing up again. I'll let you know how it looks.

My holidays have come to an end. Been fun and I have achieved a lot in the room. The only outstanding job is to trim around the screen with black AT material. I need to modify the track that I have already installed. Just a case of cutting some track and reinstalling some material. Hopefully have a lot of that done in the morning before night shift starts at 8pm. I am thrilled with the Seymour A/V screen material. It's been rolled up for about three years now. What a difference to the image quality. Even on low lamp mode the images are clear and bright. Oh, and I have set up the new Toy. All I can say is wow.... what an awesome bluray player the oppo bdp103 is. Even YouTube looks good on the screen. I have some screen shots on the next post.

Screen up and velvet border on.

Some shots from a Robbie Williams show DVD upscaled on the oppo. Next are Q of S and Grease bluray images plus the porsche image is from a you tube clip streamed on the oppo. And finally the new toy on the rack...

Next job will be building the rack into the wall and tuning the system properly. Almost there.....

And I also need to move the projector slightly sideways on its mount. You will see a dimming on the left side of the image. Should be fine when aligned properly. I also need to fit an astigmatism correction lens on the anamorphic lens which should improve pq a little more. Even without it I'm happy.
Cheers all. By the way... waiting for the bronze material to arrive. Then the door will be finished.

So close I can taste it. Had a couple of celebratory beers thisafternoon to mark the end of the fabric installation. Finished trimming the front screen wall. Used industrial Velcro from Bunnings to hold the screen in place top and bottom. Its not moving! Finished trimming the door in bronze material. Just have the piece to make to trim the handle area and then install the acoustic seal. Cinema is now fully operational and ready for movie nights. I will be organising some better quality images for the final reveal It's been quite a task..... still need to do all the tuning and some work outside the room but today marks the end of the grunt work.
Cheers all.
Greg.

Hi guys.... thanks for the comments. I know these things are never really finished but I sat in the room with my son watching Transformers in all its 145 inch cinemascope and 7.1 beauty and realised that it's pretty much done. Although the job went on for a long time, it's been a rewarding and character building experience. It's introduced me to some great guys from the forum who were really willing to help with advice and some sweat too. It has bought me even closer to my Dad, who I'm amazed stayed so patient through all my frustrations. Good thing the room is soundproof! And now I have a room that I know will bring my family so much enjoyment in the coming years. Now the pressure is on to finish the rack area and mount my marquee sign. Thanks again guys. I'll get some photos taken soon.
Greg.
