Last questions, what size is your room and how many/size black lights did you need ?

Any pics of the ceiling showing day time and night time ?

pics are in my thread click roll in reels signature. they arent the greatest pics to show off the ceiling. youd have to own a real camera and seeing i dont, the best i can come up with is the blacklight on pic.

the room w/ my baffle wall is around 18' x 12'. i ran enough of the tubes to go completely around. the click into each other.

To anyone who is trying to start there stars on the ceiling from Jeff's stencil kit don't buy a temporarily black light from menards. There lights barely get bright. I wanted to start tonight and the Light is horrible lol. Looks like I'm going to have to get one online....

Star Ceilings... Painted or Fiber optics?

What color glow paint is on the ceilings of the members on here who already did there's? The stencil kit paint says it's a lime color. Would a blue glow paint look better. I did a test run on a scrap piece of drywall and it looks like once it dries there's a little bumps were the paint is at. Is this really noticeable with a flat black ceiling? Also the paint seems almost like the consistency of like my wife's lotion. One thing I'm going to add is with all the backer stars it looks so cool after charged with a black light in a dark room.

Star Ceilings... Painted or Fiber optics?

I called glowinc.com and asked about how the paint is and they said it's supposed to be like a cream consistency to it. Also lime looks to be the popular color for a ceiling by different company's.. I painted a scrap piece of drywall black and put a ton of backer stars in it and it doesn't look to bad with the little tiny bumps. If anyone starting there ceiling please post tips on here I'm about to start mine.

What happened to nightskymurals on here? He must be busy

I forgot what company I got it from, but it specialized in making gitd markings on gun sights. SUPER long duration paint (nearly 4 hours!) that came in 4 different colors(yel, blu, grn, and orng) in a cool little sampler pack, for like 15 bux.

Painted a ceiling tile black, then used a 2" paint bush and the 'bristle' method(dip brush in paint then run finger thru the bristles) to make a really cool 'targeted area' fine spray. Few of those, and it looks just like a nebula! Then a few passes with the 'flick' method(dip brush then just flick your wrist) in a different color to make bigger stars on the fine spray and man, it looked AWESOME!!! Well, as awesome as paint can look.

Fiber Opt will always be king in m book.

Seems like your looking to get a general 12' of clearance from the soffits to the ceiling. Can you use LED lights instead of black light? You heading out to MA any time soon?

If this was for me I wish I was to see your room just to hear all those 18's. I have 4 and thought it was loud in my room. But I'm going to call hitlights and figure out exactly A-to-Z what I need. Then go to ebay and buy the stuff.

Let me know when you find out :-) I can DIY some painting. I like how he used a very low level brightness for the back ground so it gives a slight glow when compared to the non treated ceiling.
If you are ever in town I can give a demo for us. My contractors running three 20 amp lines for me so I can actually turn it all they way up for more than a second (litterly a second and it trips my breaker)

Are the stencils just for the constellation stars and then you just randomly do the background stars? Any pictures of a ceiling done with this stencil kit by a diy'er?

The stencil kit comes with a few sheets of constellations like the little and big dipper and one more. The rest of the sheets are backer star sheets which is what makes the room pop and gets the wow from people when you see it. You basically fill in the dots with the tool that Jeff provides in the kit like a dental pick for the backer stars. The backer star sheets can be flipped over when your moving the sheet around your ceiling so everything will look right. I'm going to start the ceiling soon I wanted to practice on my kids room ceiling first before I touched my flat black ceiling in the HT room. The paint when you get it is like a thick cream not like paint you would get from Home Depot. If your doing this on a light colored ceiling your not going to see the backer stars when the lights are on but on a dark ceiling like my flat black ceiling you see little dots. When I'm finished I'll post pictures.

On my build thread I just realized that I started my project over a year ago and haven't made much progress. Coming here I now realize that I missed even more. Stencil kit from Jeff ? Awesome ! Where ? How ? How much ?
My room is only 10x14 but I would keep the mural size even smaller than that. Maybe paint it on thin 8'x4' MDF and mount it to the joists. That way I wouldn't loose it if I redo the ceiling for whatever reasons.
I looked on YouTube for the instruction video but didn't see anything.
