I found DTS-HD Encoder Suite on the web that I thought might allow me to decode a DTS-HD track, introduce a fade, and then re-encode it but it doesn't seem to have the ability to decode an already encoded track.

Unless somebody else has any ideas on how to cleanly insert music tracks on this disc without featuring full songs (or nearly full songs) I'm afraid music won't make it.

scuba check out Tranz gui i believe it can decode hd audio to 6 wave tracks that are editable then you can encode them back to hd audio in dts hd encoder

Timestamp for War of the Worlds pod emerging scene . LFE start at 22:43 with the church facade pulling away from the rest of the building and starting to slide into street. 23:06 if want to start with ground heaving up and collapsing. 23:32 First leg of alien emerges from ground the scene then continues through the alien vaporizing people with its lasers which is mostly done by 27:01 into the movie. So depending on how long a clip can start at any of the above points as good bass in any of it and will make you grin
Gotta fire up the U-571 to get ya numbers on it. Are three sets of depth charges dropped with in between dialog occurring. First one starts 1:17:13 and ends at 1:17:47. Second one (main one and IMO best of three) 1:19:27 until 1:20:30 Last one is 1:28:52 until 1:29:30. Could possibly leave the first two together as single segment if want or do all three separately since are relatively short clips or splice as desired--leave it up to you since you are doing the work here and I have no clue how much of a PIA it is---other than way outta my league.

Cloverfield - LFE
War of the Worlds - LFE (Pod immergence seems to be what everyone refers to but would be much more convienent if I actually had timestamps)
Hulk (2008) - LFE
Flight of the Pheonix - LFE
Terminator Salvation - LFE/Surround (Still not sure on this movie)
U-571 - LFE (Depth Charge Scenes, I may be using the floating target scene for Surround)

I have two Baraka clips, One is where a group of men are chanting outside a Temple and the other one is where African Indians are jumping. I'll put these on the server and will let you know. Do yo want a different clip? let me know.

Don't know if this idea will be of your, or anyone else's liking. Join all the clips together and make one medley clip.

One clip that will jump from song to song, and yes abruptly, but will have continuity if done right; 30 to 40 seconds per song for 10 clips and you have yourself a 7 min demo music clip.

Or stick with musical movie clips... Phantom of the Opera, Across the Universe, Chicago, Mama Mia, The sound of Music, 8 mile, etc...

I've got BR for Cloverfield and Hulk (2008 ) , will get the timestamps tomorrow (Sunday) if possible.

Is it too late to suggest additions?
I'll go thru my BR's also, I remember "The Polar Express" initial train scene chug-chug really worked my IB sub pretty neat. A few others.

I saw the KC sub gtg comments, and your disc rev1 worked fine for my HEMI 5/14 meet also. A big THANK YOU

I already have the disc, so it's easiest just to give timestamps. I don't have any particular clip in mind so I'm open to your recommendations. Keeping in mind that this will be in the visual category. I've only browsed the disc so I haven't watched it in it's entirety. One scene that stands out in my mind was a scene of women carrying something on these little hillside paths and then the camera pulls back to review a bunch of these hillsides with bunches of paths on women on them.

I downloaded it and gave it a spin, it spat out 6 individual wav files for the 5.1DTSHD track I gave it. I haven't tested any further but DTSHD support wasn't explicitly mentioned. I hope the output isn't the DTS core.

Hi Steve - are you still looking for Terminator Salvation timestamps? If so, I'll try to track them down this evening. I have to vote for that being included! Thanks!

I'd also like to get some input images of users with their home theaters that would like to be featured on this disc as a background.

Version 1.0 used my theater, which most said I should use since I invested all the time and what not. A few people have offered me the rights to use their theater but haven't supplied images.

I need high quality images, ideally larger than 1920x1080 because some cropping will be needed. 1920x800 will be about the target resolution.

So post em up or else everyone will be looking at my theater again!

Here are some clips I suggest. I can provide timestamps for any scene. We use these clips extensively at Home Theater for evaluation:

Video:

The International: Opening sequence until he leaves the car (good for surround sound too)

Cars: Cow Tipping Scene

LFE:

Tron Legacy: The Grid

The Incredible Hulk: the park scene when they shoot the Hulk with the sonic waves INSANE LFE LEVELS

Audio and Video:

Kung Fu Panda: Escape from Prison (chapter 9 I believe), outstanding scene for audio and video, including LFE

Terminator Salvation: Gas station scene from the time the girl is grabbed until the pilot is shot down. Amazing sequence for sound and video

Renaissance: Shootout in the glass garden

Toy Story 3: Opening sequence

Music:

The Social Network Score Blu-ray: On We March and Complication with an Optomistic Outcome

John Mayer Live in LA: Vultures

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds: Bartender and Don't Drink the Water

I'll look through my stuff at home for more recommendations, but these are just off the top of my head.

I think it is easier to please a diverse group such as this with a few minutes of different types of movies than with different types of music. I'm pretty tired of the 10 minutes of Pearl Harbor from version 1, but I still watch most of it because it looks and sounds great. On the other hand, I won't listen to 30 seconds of music I don't enjoy, no matter how "good" it sounds. So I would skip the music altogether and not lose sleep over it. And it looks like there's plenty of other stuff to fill up the time!

I agree that it's more difficult to select the "correct" music to please everyone, however as for the disc itself I think music is a very good thing to demonstrate if it's a high quality recording of a concert. If it were a music video, I could really care less.

Take for example the Dave Matthews thing. I maybe didn't select the best track for the first version, but I know that I've gotten people to sit and watch 2 or 3 songs from that Blu-ray, who aren't even fans of that genre of music (they are more in to Pop/Hip-hop)

I'm keeping Music flagged as an unknown, I don't want to write it off completely just yet. Jjoboh pointed me to some software that will decode a DTS file to 6 (or 8) individual .wav files. Assuming that it decodes the DTSHD content and not the core, it'll be a viable option for creating a compound clip. It's just a ton of work and I'm not sure people will even use it that much.

Mike,

Thanks for the post, if you had to choose one of them for Cloverfield, based on your understanding of the frequency charts, what would you choose? Keep in mind that I'm not opposed to combining a few items into clip. For example, item number 6 and 7 from that list can combine to create a single clip that goes from 26:09 to 28:59

I understand, but I wonder if there would be as much tolerance for, say, a Baroque string quartet, which happens to be my preference.
Fortunately, I haven't seen any requests for clips from Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Thanks again for all your hard work. And keep in mind that this is not necessarily a democratic process - it's YOUR disc!

LFE

The Incredible Hulk (2008) - Chapter 17 - "It Has to Be Me" - 01:32:00 - 01:32:49 for Hulk scream! or through 01:36:15 for beginning of fight and helicopter crash. The scream HAS to be on this disk IMO, if you do nothing else at least put that first 49 seconds of this scene on the LFE section! With the right ported subwoofer you feel the hulk's breath on your face!!! The scene goes on until 01:41:08, but the point is made by 01:36:15 and these individual demos are best kept short and sweet!

U-571 - Chapter 15 - "Depth Charged" - 01:17:00 - 01:20:37 - Depth Charge Scene Beginning - Plenty of Explosions, and I think the quieter middle section of this clip should be included to show dynamic contrast and build the scene!

Matrix Revolution - Chapter 26 - "A Truce" - 01:39:29 - 01:40:18 - I enjoy the LFE effect of the architects voice, it's an unusual effect.

Surround

Gladiator - Chapter 2 - "Hell Unleashed" - 00:07:15 - 00:08:36 or continue the clip through the end of the battle at 00:12:32 - This is the inital battle scene where thousands of arrows fly and lots of catapult balls and other various weapons thud. One of my all time favorite surround demonstrations.

Terminator 2 - Judgement Day - Chapter 57 - "Terminator Serves Notice" - 01:52:01 - 01:53:29 The minigun scene where the terminator shoots a bunch of cop cars and then uses a grenade launcher from the cyberdyne window --- Some of the best sound in any movie I've ever watched --- gets better the louder you crank it! You'll think you are on a firing range! Another of my favorite scenes to demo!

Matrix - Chapter 30 - "Dodge This" - 01:46:03 - 01:47:00 - Besides the infamous lobby scene that others mentioned, this is a good scene for surround channel transitions. Neo dodges bullets in slo-mo.

Matrix Revolution - Chapter 17 - "Breaching the Dome" - 01:02:28 - 01:04:21 - Awesome surround sound demonstration where the mechs are defending Zion from the sentinels. There are many cool surround sound sections through these next 20 minutes of film or so.

DVD only at this time - man would it be good if they put it on bluray!

Titan AE - Chapter 16 - "In the Ice Ring" - 1:02:50 - 1:07:30 - Space Ships flying in between huge space 'iceburgs'. Lots of LFE. You don't really need this whole excert, but it's awesome to listen to on a good sub!

Thanks for considering my suggestions Scuba and I'm looking forward to your next work!

Consider it done!

Was already planning to use the u571 scene you mentioned as well as the Gladiator scene. Nice to have timestamps to save me the time.

Even though the soundtrack might be nice, I'm keeping DVD content and non-lossless content off of the disc.

Thanks for the time to contribute!

A little observation, that Michael (LastButNotLeast) brought up, U-571's audio, according to the cover and confirmed by the muxer, is DTS or Dolby plus.

I must've missed that, is that in this thread?

TSMuxer is reporting DTS-HD

We're getting this from the HD DVD. Hopefully, the BD version has the "improved" sound codecs. Saw it (the BD) at Target for $10, BTW.

Did you really need to quote that entire post in your reply?

Checked the HD specs vs. the BD specs... HD Dolby plus while BD DTS HD. I guess Blu-Ray takes one more.

Five-star bass movies are the place to start, work down if you need more. That thread has timestamps, discussion and waterfalls so you know exactly what LFE content is involved.

HTTYD I think the consensus is the dragon crash at the end of the film is the most impressive scene.

TRON: Legacy I'm not sure, there seems to be bass all over, but this is also the reference track for all other audio channels, so I'm sure quite a few scenes would demo very well.

Someone else posted a link to that thread a couple posts above your original one, so of course we're aware of it. OP has requested timestamps, so that thread will help some, but he can't do all the leg-work.

Please, if you suggest something, be more helpful & include timestamps :-)
