mmmmm....dead vent. I need to start on mine soon too.

LOL, but you are not far from the mark. I had a few tanks made out of concrete with glass windows when having the house built.

What kind of fish is it, and why is it worth 100k?

It is an Leucistic Australian Lungfish, that is very rare. Up until a few years ago, it was the only one of its kind. I believe there are an additional 3 fish that are lacking color somewhere else in the world, but still no Leucistic ones though.

Some pics of an normal colored one.

Regarding the fish, is that something of a cultural thing in Japan? I believe there have been some carp or similar that have been auctioned off in the millions? Is it good for business to have such a status symbol? (Or were you just lucky fishin' one day?)

Certain fish bring luck and there are certain traits in a fish that people will pay big dollars for.

The piraruku is a great fish indeed. But the Amazon and Australia is pretty far apart. Seriously, the fish in the pic (piraruku) is also an air-breather.

Sorry , I have been very pre-occupied trying to sort out my ear issue. I think I may have narrowed it down to something with the power in Japan the amps.

I have confirmation that my chairs will be here on Feb 26th which I can't wait for.

I doubt very much that mail order fruit would make it past Japan customs probably why mangoes cost $30 to begin with.
I know this is OT but I worked for a Japanese owned company years ago and at least at that time a certain percentage of Japanese consumers were willing to pay ridiculous prices for items that met a certain "ideal".

Are you thinking about getting one of those "power regeneration" products?

I am. I know they may just be hocus pocus, but I am willing to try anything ATM.

And just as an update, it has to be the amps that are reacting to something that is killing my ears, this all happened a few days ago. I was working in the theater wraping some panels for a few hours (all in absolute quite, I was relishing the quite time away from screeming kids) and my ears were really starting to hurt and started ringing bad. I though WTF, I have nothing turned on and for a second started to panic and think that it was the room, but due to the Catalysts being behind the screen I could not tell that they were turned on.

So no signal , just the idling amps caused the the exact same pain I have been getting (today my ears are shot ). I honestly don't understand how this could be, but it does seem that is not the speakers themselves. And seeming though I am the only one with this problem and I am the only one who owns them in Japan, this has to be a Japan related problem (whether it be how my house is wirred up or the quality of the power here). If there is anything else that will help this situation , I am willing to try it.

The only other thing that is different is that Japan is just about the only country that uses 100v, everyone else uses 115-120v or 220 -240v. So maybe a step up transformer as well?

Wow. Wild.
Have you measured the FR/noise spectrum from the amps at idle to see if you can identify the frequency that is causing it?

That's an idea. Then you could get a tone generator to match the freq of what the idling amps put out and see if it produces the same results.

Dave,

Great HT build thread and very inspirational. A couple of quick questions if you will. What made you choose the Vango projector over other front projector options? Second, how is the image quality from the Vango?

Again, great build and more importantly great end results!

Thanks for the great comments!

My main reason was stability and no convergence issues. The vango being LED as you probably know don't dim as fast as other bulbs as you also probably know, gives more stability in the image. No need to worry about dimming bulbs and recalibrating for a new bulb or one that has dimmed considerably. I know that with the higher quality 3 chips that convergence issues are getting rarer, but I really wanted a relatively maintenance free machine. The other thing is no rainbows.

As for image quality, it is way better than any of the JVC's, and I had the opportunity to view a Sim2 Lumis the other day, while it is not quite as good as the lumis is closer than anything else I have seen to date.

That's weird, you wouldn't think a >24kHz noise would effect you, but maybe?

Been there done that. Actually I have been to a few doctors b/c of this. My hearing is above normal and I have no notches in any frequencies. I have had a whole multitude of tests done and everything has come back normal.

Just a thought in a totally different direction, with all the new construction materials and finishes going into your space something may be triggering an allergic reaction. I have problems with my ears and allergies.
