Well the home theater is finally under way.

I had Dennis Erskine do the acoustical designs for me and since I am in Japan I obviously could not have him do the whole theater for me (Something that I wish I could have done).

The room is 22.3' long 16' wide and 7.9' high. It is solid concrete for all four walls ,celling and floor. It will completely sealed with 400lbs sound proof doors(two locations).

Equipment so far is,

Speakers
Quested 210c main monitors X 3 (L,C,R)
Selah Audio SB Array X 2 (surround)
RE Audio XXX 18" X 7 (Infinite baffle sub)
PJ: Vango LED
Bluray: Opppo BDP-95

Assasin HTPC
RS20i Receiver

Lab Gruppen FP 10000Q  Power Amp x 2

Lab Gruppen FP 14000  Power Amp

Yamaha TX4n Power Amp

Yamaha TX4n Power Amp x 2

14' Wide At Center Stage Seymour screen 1.2 gain

First some help with my speaker choice and PJ from AVS members,
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1167835
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...ghlight=seaton
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...ghlight=seaton

Here are the initial ideas and designs I had come up with, these are nothing like the designs that Dennis has made for me.

A few changes have been made since these designs were made.

My inspiration. I know the size of the room is completely different, but I just love the ways Arts room looks.

Before the build.

This is when I was using the room as a fish room. There was about 5000g worth of tanks in this room at one stage.

After I clean the tanks out of the basement. There are still tanks and filters behind that left door.

Looks like you're going to have a rockin' HT Dave. Looking forward to seeing the build.

Looking forward to this build.
Similar to what I'm doing. Already got the 3 Cat's (First in OZ).
I'm glad I didn't buy the rest of the speakers yet because the AUD is looking pretty good at the moment. (tipped to go higher yet)
Just a question on the design by Dennis, why couldn't he do a full set of plans for you?

Craig.

He did do a set of plans for me. But I would have wanted him to do all the construction in the HT, but obviously that is impossible.

Won't the solid concrete walls make the bass sound boomy? I would have thought drywall and studs would sound better. Also, what has he specified for the bass traps in the corners?

It looks like he is putting up acoustic fabric panels all around. I guess that would tame the boominess.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. That was my original design, what Dennis has designed for me is completely different, but the basic layout of the theater has not changed.
As flyng_fool has stated, it will have acoustic panels on all 4 walls, floor to celling and the some panels on celling to a degree. The corners will be a super chunk style trap with about a 4' face (if my calculations are right) from floor to ceiling, but from what I understand about the designs ,they are built the same as a super chunk.

Ok the start of actual construction. Here are a few pics to get started. I was away, so I had to have the builders take them.

This projects does looks very interesting. Good luck.

Would you give us some details on conduit in the soffit? Is it all for running A/V cables or also for electrical wiring?

Clearly, I'm a man of action - just give me a few minutes to think about it.

Sorry, yes it is all for running cables to the speakers and any other wires for any AV equipment. The soffits will be filled or stuffed with as much glass wool as can fit. The electrical is using seperate conduits and b/c the speakers are all active, there is a few of them too.

Some more pics.

More pics of the 3" diameter conduits running through the soffits, that are still unfinnished.

A pic from where the stage will eventually be.

The fiber glass arrives.

The back of the room.

The soffits packed with 48k glass wool and covered with peg board.

Different angle.

More pics of the soffits.

First of the wood work going in above the stage.

Conduits for the speaker cables.

First of the columns and corner bass trap. The corner bass trap will have a 3.3 ft face. Hopefully this and others will tame some of the low frequencies.

Back wall, with the two solid sound proof doors in place. You can see that Dennis has seperated the two back speakers, where my plans had them together.

Very cool. Whats up with the perforated boards? Haven't seen that around here?

Is that an Aussie thing? Does it have the potential to mess with the acoustics? (thinkking GG and dual layer drywall)...

Since Dennis did the acoustic design, I am guessing it is Perf-sorber
