When will he realize the hum is actually in his head?

I learned to silence that hum with Bombay Sapphire. The ground hum remains elusive.

Sorry for being away and thanks for checking in!

I have been out of town for work for a couple of weeks. I'm sure you'll appreciate my not announcing that on a public forum until I've returned.

I wish that I had been working in the theatre but instead I was doing some very cool but very exhausting work in another city for my job. Those Crestron systems don't program themselves!

Maker Faire North Carolina planning is progressing smoothly. It's a really fun event that I encourage you to attend if you're nearby Raleigh, NC on Saturday June 16th. Here's a video that we produced about our 2011 event that should shed a little light on it.

www.makerfairenc.com

Speaking of videos, now that I'm back on Terra Firma for a while I'm going to finish up my next video. Popcorn ceiling scraping, wire pulling, a little painting, soldering, and a couple guest stars.

Don't tell anyone but I finally have a free hour or two to work in the theatre today! Also TOMORROW! ZOMG! First time in over two weeks!

I'm going finish up the soffit insulation and then start pulling some wire for the projector while I contemplate mounting options.

Success! I managed to pull a string from the projector location to the rack! What's the first thing you pull with a pull string? FIVE MORE pull strings! LOL

Um, should there not be a "popcorn" ceiling video showing up here sometime soon? I think THAT should be your first (and only) priority ATM.

Just sayin'.

I made great progress today. I pulled two HDMI cables from the projector location to the rack and I pulled a few extra pull strings.

Unfortunately I had to cut in a pull-box in the middle of the ceiling but I think I'll just slap a 2-gang retro box in it with a blank plate and paint it along with the ceiling and it won't be too bad. I might actually wind up installing a motion detector in that hole since it's so close to the door.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I then cleaned up the whole room, disconnected everything, and wrapped it up in blankets. The next step is going to be drywalling the soffits. I've already stuffed 'em full of R30 and run all the wire I need through them including spares and strings.

I'm trying to psych myself up for doing the drywall. I've never done drywall on this scale before.

I've been waffling (haha) about hiring out the drywall on the soffits. The soffits are 7x14" but I figured that all the lighting cutouts would be really labor intensive and ratchet up the cost quite a bit.

I'll probably do it myself. I found this great tool for marking the center of the downlights. Hold on, I'll find it.

Another question: Does the Panasonic PT-AE7000's lens need to be even with the top of the screen for the Zoom CIH method? It seems variable based on Panasonic's site but I can't tell exactly.

Maybe some of us are waiting on YouTube to render the 4K Native video that someone uploaded?

Hey John,

I dont think its changed from the 4000 and the top of the lens(or whole lens) must be within the projected image boundary.

Nuff talk, more pics!

That makes sense to me but I can't reconcile it with this installation guide from Panasonic.

* When projecting both 2.35:1 and 16:9 images onto a 2.35:1 screen using the Lens Memory function.

The distance requirement is due to zoom limitations.

The height and windage requirement is due to lens shift limitations.

You have to meet both requirements AND keep the lens inside the projected image.

OK, OK. Here are a few (lousy, unedited) pics from recent footage.

Insulation installified:

Playing with the LASER emitters (destined to be installed somewhere in the soffit)

Projector markings and rough-in for electrical and low voltage. I checked and it looks like I'll be able to get two of the mounting screws into the joist and two installed with snap-toggles.

Installing one of the drivers into one of the subs:

Pulling some of the signal and communications wiring for the speakers. This shows the old center channel design. I'm not going to do that anymore.

Well here it is! Another video update. This is a bunch of random little things!

This was mastered in 4K so if you're feeling particularly high tech and awesome you can click through to YouTube and select "Original" in the Quality picker. 1080p is also there if you want too.
