Okay, I have been using Google Sketchup, playing around with designs. Of course, being a fan of Star Wars architecture, I drew that style objects into my room.

I'll post some construction pics later, after I figure out how to display the images inline.

I have made a lot of progress. The lightbox is lit by a string of LED tape. Here, you can see the back of the box. And in the next photo, I have test fit the box to the wall. It just snaps over (and under) the door frame. Next I will paint it the final colors. It needs 6 cover panels. They snap on and are held in place with magnet catches. A spacey-looking control panel will be added as well. What do you think so far? Does it look like my Sketchup drawing?

Needs a sign saying "no fat chicks"

Thats one narrow door.....awesome nonetheless!

Is your whole room going to be decked out like this? I'd be going to a deck of the Executor look - you could have areas of black fabric covering treatments as the "windows"

Yeah, the whole room is going to be decked out. This lightbox is just for the closet door. Here are a few photos of the construction. I have a lot of small details to add to the lightbox yet. I might get it painted gray tomorrow. Thanks for the comments.

I have the doorway finished. It took months to get the wood to cooperate and get the LED portions all wired up the way I wanted. Then I started on the floor. I have no Star Wars toys or memorabilia - I don't want any of that. I just admire the beautiful architecture of their movie sets. How about these in-progress photos?

After I finished the lightbox, I laid out a platform that covers over half the room. This platform will support a horseshoe-shaped computer desk. The edge of the platform is lit Star Wars-style!

After getting some wood screwed to the top of the floor platform, I designed a computer desk. It will have a giant horseshoe-shaped work surface with a matching curved shelf above it. Here, I've cut the two halves of the desk and set them up on little ladders to see what the shape looks like. With this new desk top, I will have all my computer stuff in easy reach. The top is 7.5 ft x 4.5 ft. My old crappy computer chair is in the middle for size. I just might build a new chair inspired by the cockpit chairs from Star Wars. Or maybe it will be like one of those high-backed chairs in the Imperial boardroom where Darth chokes his officers. The shiny black tiles are 16-inch long "subway" tiles. I like them because they reflect the light around the room. This is my first tile job. I grabbed a wet saw from Harbor Freight and started chopping these crazy angles. What a difficult first tile project with all the odd angles. There were only 4 straight 90-degree cuts on the whole thing. I'm going to add some black grout next. What do you think of this setup?

I'm really enjoying watching your progress! Your work is very convincing. Nice Job!

By the way, I listen to similar music while I work on my theater. If you use Pandora, try the "Justice" station. It's really good.

Here is how the wall treatment is being done:
(1) Cover inappropriate Colonial-style wall trim with shiny silver metal furnace tape
(2) Add small bits of reflective tape, all colors
(3) Get vinyl house eave vents at Lowe's. Primer them with Adhesion Promoter spray. Then spray with gray primer, both sides to fully paint the inner edges of all the tiny vent holes.
(4) Glue the eve vent strips to wall with Goop glue. Tape them down with green tape for an overnight to dry.
(5) Take photos and be amazed how bright these things are!

Working on the Star Wars themed gaming room. It's in "dance" mode tonight as I mask off the walls and floor in preparation for painting the plain white ceiling a lovely flat black.

Okay, more pics. I am building a desk.
And the desk has metal "feet" made of aluminum "U" channel like this:
Some tools used in the layout
Cutting out the desk uprights
This pewter paint is used to simulate metal
The desk is being clearcoated tonight. I'll check back with more photos later!

More progress! Carpet tiles being test-fit before gluing them down to the floor...

The Imperial logo on white polycarbonate...

The logo lit up...

Working on the desk a little more...

Desk end with lights...

One of the desk feet with fancy aluminum channel trim...

Drilling a 4-inch hole for something...

Adding a lighted cup holder...

12 volts blue LEDs of course...

Cup docked...

And a cup holder for the other end of the desk...

More later, if you like these?

The room looks fantastic. Not only that, but your ingenuity is amazing. I never would have thought to cover the trim with foil tape.. nor would it have ever dawned on me to use soffit vent like that. My hat is off to you, sir.

More progress has been made. The desk portion is FINISHED! How about a joystick switch to turn the cup holders on and off?

and here's the overall shot of the platform and the desk...

and...

and...

The feet are trimmed out in aluminum channel...

There is a curved shelf on top with edge lighting...

and...

and...

The floor has a shine to it...

Next, I'm trimming out all the walls like a Star Wars hallway. There will be a lot of gray panels.
All the wooden parts were cut with a jigsaw. If you can cut with a jigsaw, you could made a room like this too!
