CurtisG did his DE designed theater in red/back and gold molding.
Turned out beautiful. I need to tell you though that it helps to paint the molding first then hang and just touch up the nail holes.

I think he discusses the type of paint that he used and the painting technique in his thread.

Behr sells a gold paint. Check out my "previous theater" link. I am sure I have a picture of the Behr paint bottle.

I used gold paint, then added a glaze over it. Let me check my thread for a couple pix. We used Benjamin Moore.

Here is a couple quotes:

We are going to do the crown and most likely the curved soffit in the front in this color. The rest of the colors will be dazian expocloth (aka exposure) - black for the screen wall, under soffits and columns, and royal blue for the fabric frames.

There is also a fancy gold paint that some people have bought (Old Masters or something?) Run some searches in the archives.

EDIT 2 - Here it is:

I'm still waiting on my anamorphic lens from DPI and now they're telling me it will be available at the end of this week, but I've been hearing that since January so I'm not holding my breath.

Here are the latest photos.

The medallions from the Medallion Factory.

Spraying on the primer.

Priming the trim rings for the 4" can lights.

Painted medallions

Finished trim rings.

Close up of ceiling medallion installed.

Entire ceiling shots.

The tough part in trying to gague colors on many of our HTs is that we design the rooms to be dark. Most photography does not accuratly reflect the colors of our HTs....

The easiest thing for me is that I watch a TON of college football. So when I went with colors, in this case GOLD, I liked Florida State's. Glidden makes matches for all college and pro teams. So if you like a certain gold, say FSU, ND, etc.... just get the glidden match.

I used Valspar Metallic Gold Spray Paint. If you are going wit this route...read da below

Mistakes I did (like always trying to hurry up and then feel 4 it)

1. Not spraying evenly
2. Not giving enough time to dry and try to lift it - finger prints
3. Use painter Mask tape around da area where u r spraying on wall

Advise - Spray 2 coat minimum

I assume your talking about the second theater. Not mine, but the one I think of when I think of gold paint. He is one of those guys who came in, posted a thread for a few months, doing some serious work and then disappeared. Search Makeit57 for his full thread. I am glad his pics still load.
