On the audio side the main improvements were -
1. A very significant tightening up of the bass.
2. Better centre image from the outside chairs when listening to music in PLIIx.
3. Less localisation of the sides.
4. Better integration of the subs with the mains.
5. Removal of an excess of upper bass.
I'm very happy with the results and Gerben from Procella, who's heard the system many times during the build and fit out, was also impressed with the improvement. Maybe he'll give us his thoughts.
Yes, I have visited this room a few times now, as Peter and I live all of 10 minutes down the road from each other. Just a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of bringing Anders Uggelberg with me, as he visited Sydney whilst on a cruise holiday.
The first thing you notice once you make it upstairs into the theatre and close those two very(!) heavy doors behind you, is the silence. There is no noise, either from outside, from the rest of the house or from the equipment. The Procella DA2800 amps are very silent indeed! Then the room makes a very nice and calm impression overall. The quality of the fit and finish is impeccable, very little is there to distract the eye.
Peter loves showing you his racks... and they are state-of-the-art indeed. Then he grabs the iPad and turns down the lights and the music begins. Peter is mostly interested in music and this determined a few very important design decisions in this room: The screen is much wider than usual and this is to accommodate the wider-than-usual angle of the Left and Right speakers. They are wider to allow the wider sound stage that Peter wants for his music play-back. And boy, does music sound good in this room. Peter has an impressive collection of music and I have heard many a track from it. You end up just wanting to hear more, as you keep discovering new 'bits' you never heard in this recording, and that recording. Close your eyes and keep listening, the hours just fly by...
The P610 are just flawless, they are keep delivering the music - and movies - without any strain or distortion. They are effortless, thy provide clarity, control, precision. You feel like you are the producer in the studio, surrounded by the artists when they recorded the track for the first time. You can hear their creative decisions playing out in front and around you. The seamless collaboration between the P610 L/C/R and the P6 surrounds is such a delight. At no point do the surround elements feel under-valued, they sound just as good as the L/C/R's. We call this Identical Voices, something we have been advocating since our days working at DTS. Of course the quality of the acoustics and the calibration play their - large - part in this as well. And then you turn it up even louder for some movie clips, which is when the two P15's flex their muscles and grip your guts and your heart! Crazy how good those P15 perform!
So after three hours, it is time to leave Peter and his family alone. Thank you for a great evening of music! This room does everything right, you can feel the quality of the Erskine design, the Quest acoustics and it is nice to know that Peter hand-made so much of this room himself. He ended up with exactly the room he wanted, and it is nice to know that we contributed to that.
