There is that signature ceiling again. Interesting with the 45 degree "wall"/ceiling join

Like this ... on the floor and then jacked up into place (no nails or fasteners are visible). In this case, however, one of those octagons will drop out of place to allow access to the attic hatch to maintain the air conditioner. Sneaky little devils aren't we. By the way, the rendering shows the door into the room. Wot? can't find the door? That's was the basic idea.

I hope this time some interior destroyer doesn't pick another awful carpet that distracts your attention away from all the fine detail that will be going into that room.

psst... they're octagons...

And I'm seriously thinking about outright stealing this design for a future HT of my own. Awesome.

I've got an idea for your secret door. Have it on a giant circular swivel and have the whole thing triggered by lifting the candle out of the sconce and putting it back in. I think I saw that in a movie somewhere....

Yup. Magic. It does help that we manufacturer our own sound attenuation doors.

End of week one. (Thanks to the crew for driving 3000 miles and working Thanksgiving week!).

We started with a pre-fab, standalone garage. The work so far, included the upgrade to the electrical panel, removal of the overhead doors, installation of the HVAC system, adding an extension to the building to house the projector, rough electrical, framing the entry foyer, moving the entrance door, insulation, and first layer of drywall.

One thing you may notice, is the studs on the exterior walls have sister studs. Why? All the walls were between 3/4" and 1-1/2" out of square, so we had to square the building up. Also, the barrel ceiling in the entry hall hasn't been installed.

Progress has been slowed a bit (those who want to work for a living are sometimes impeded by those who only work when they don't have an excuse to have paid time off).

Isolation mat is down, sub-floor is down. Platforms/stage today. By the end of the week, the entire interior shell will be done, as built measurements taken and its back to the shop to complete the millwork.

Yes, the only surface of the six with radically different impedance is the floor (the client steadfastly refused magnetic suspension of the room or building).

I'm looking forward to this! The render is gorgeous, Dennis.

I seriously admire the guys who do your millwork. There can't be many people around anymore who do this kind of meticulous, detailed woodworking.

I assume the garage floor was originally sloped. Did you leave the slope or was the floor leveled somehow?

Nope... no slope to the floor to speak of. On the other hand between the area of the stage and area of the seating platform, there's a whole bunch of opportunity to "level" the floor without re-floating an entire garage!

We do our own millwork, and yes, they are good. Thanks!!
